You are describing my master suite. My shower head is fairly close to the door to the closet, and I must walk through the master bathroom to get to the master closet. Many of the houses in my neighborhood are like this. I don't think its a problem as long as you have a fully enclosed shower. (By "fully" I mean it has a door, and walls on all 4 sides of the shower -- I'm not talking about the shower being completely enclosed on the top. In other words water can theoretically splash out the top of my shower, and onto the carpet in the closet, but in practice it doesn't since the shower walls are quite tall (over 6 feet, I believe). The shower walls are pretty good at keeping water in. This photo is fairly like my master shower. The shower head would be on the left wall inside the shower in the pic above. The door to the master closet would be just outside the shower on the left side of the pic, at a 90 degree angle to the shower door (the master bedroom closet door is on the same plane as the wall that the shower head is on.) In addition, the wall on the other side of the shower head is inside the master closet.

From the sketch, it seems as though actually closing the door would be problematic - I find closing the door in some bathroom stalls to be a bit awkward and I can't imagine wanting to go through that when I was using my home toilet. A pocket door would make the space more functional but again, I probably wouldn't go through the hassle of shutting a pocket door either just to toilet myself in an enclosed area. But I am coming from a place in which I don't understand the need to have a small enclosed area since it's never been an issue in my lifestyle - especially since most people have at least two bathrooms if there is ever some kind of truly urgent need for a person to be using the toilet while another person needs to be in the room. I think of it as an amenity that works in a large home where it is actually a large gracious room that is equivalent to a powder room size. When it is squeezed into a normal middle class sized bathroom, it then becomes somewhat dysfunctional - or at best besides the point. But many people feel that however humble and small, it is something worth squeezing in.

We've always lived in very warm and humid southern states. FL and LA were the worst for humidity, but the others haven't been much better. Not once have we had mold in a closet that opens off our bathroom. We use the exhaust fans as recommended and manage the overall indoor humidity to the best of our ability. That means using a portable dehumidifier during the shoulder seasons, which we'd need no matter where the closet was located. The new house will have a whole-house ventilating dehu system. We much prefer a compartmented bathroom and separate closets that both open off the bathroom. If either of us is up late or rises early, the other one is not disturbed. If we need to get ready at the same time, we have more privacy. For over four decades this has worked well for us. Other folks have different preferences, but the negative responses (some rather rude) from a few here whenever these situations come up surprise me.

The first problem here is space allocation ... you have SO MUCH space in the bedroom /space enough to have three beds, yet the closet and parts of the bathroom are small, cramped areas. The second problem is the angles, which make for odd usage of space. You probably can't do anything about the angle in the hallway, but you can square off spaces within this large master suite: - Block off a large master closet just inside the bedroom ... this also provides a sound barrier between the bed and the staircase. You can also have a smaller master closet on the other side ... or this closet could open to the hallway /could serve whole-house purposes. - You still have a large bedroom space. - This could give you a larger vanity ... the one you have now absolutely can't support duplicate sinks. A part of this vanity could easily become a linen tower. - By stealing space from the over-large tub deck, you can have a larger shower. - Note that your toilet-in-a-closet doesn't work. You can literally see that the door is hitting the toilet. - A storage space beyond the toilet seems odd and difficult to access. Perhaps a door could be opened towards the bedroom /which wouldn't require squeezing past the toilet. Or you could use some of the storage space to enlarge this toilet-closet ... it could give you some storage space next to the toilet. Better yet, do away with the closet.
