Pruning Rose de Rescht for Rebloom
Comments (9)Diane, I prune to shape in March, and after the spring flush prune anything that was unwieldy but loaded with blooms. RdR is such a healthy, pretty little plant and is a terrific introduction to OGRs for lots of the folks who come through our garden on tours. Kind of the "Knockout" of heritage roses, if you'll forgive the moniker....See MoreRose de Rescht
Comments (17)I got the purple idea from Vintage's description: Nancy Lindsay's Iranian foundling is so well known under this name that we exclude the mystery rose categorization. Those who love deep purple will adopt this rose for life; its deep amaranth pompons surround a swirling button. Grey-green foliage and splendid rebloom. My favorite of the Portlands. I, too, was skeptical about that as in all the pictures I've ever seen, it looked either red or some shade of fuchsia or cerise. (Speaking of pictures, I see I have already exceeded my views for the day at Geocities. What is the best free image hosting site online? It seems I've tried photobucket before but didn't like it.) I was not trying to turn it into a cut flower. Even on the bush three days is tops for me. In fact, once it reaches the fully open state, the petals are usually falling by the end of that day. I do like it a lot, and am happy to find out it roots easily as it would be interesting to try it out in different locations. It is also setting hips which I would have believed to be unusual for a rose with such a high petal count....See Morerose de rescht the last rose of summer?
Comments (12)My Rdr is bare now, but it's in a spot where it's not getting a lot of sun right now because of the angle of the sun. My roses in the front get tons of sun even now because my yard faces south. It's actually sunnier there now than in the summer because then the sun is overhead and the trees block some of it. I have lots of new growth on most of my roses out front, but they may not have time to put on buds if it gets cold. Also, no rain for weeks, so that is having an effect. My teas look the best. Mdme Lambard is really pretty right now. Also Lady Hillingdon. I guess they like the cooler weather....See MoreHey Chicago, Want my Jeri Jennings or Rose de Rescht?
Comments (4)If I lived closer I'd take 'Jeri Jennings' in a heartbeat. Can't justify a 12 hour round trip for one rose, however beautiful. Here's hoping you find some takers!...See Moreshebabee
