Landscape Design Forum FAQ - Improved
Comments (7)While I think that the "FAQ" as outlined by swanoir was presented tongue in cheek ('the humus'), many of the subsequent comments and/or links to threads that could/should be included in a FAQ were presented in a more serious tone. And maybe they do make sense as a foundation to a real LD forum FAQ. But I've also sensed something else in these comments that may contribute to the apparent lack of communication between new posters seeking advice and those that regularly frequent this forum and offer it. And that is that the long checklist provided by Miss R must be (or should be) answered in detail before posting. Well, of course not! But it is definitely something worth reviewing and giving some thought to. This checklist, or something very similar, is what most designers utilize when first meeting with a prospective client. It gives them a feeling for what the client wants to do with the property, how they intend to use it, what they hope to get out of it and how much effort (time/$$) are they are intending to put into it. Hopefully, reviewing an outline or checklist such as this could help to refine and focus some of those blank slate questions and even educate those new posters totally unfamiliar with the process the degree of complexity, the number of variables and exactly what is involved in the formulation of a landscape design. Even DIY landscape texts intended for the homeowner with no previous design or landscaping experience offer similar checklists to get one started thinking about the process. Obviously, this is overkill for those questions that are more issue-specific, but I think very appropriate for those that are much broader and far less focused....See MoreHeating my greenhouse
Comments (77)"And eric is living just about in paradise, AFAIAC. Little more sun and you'd be overrun with people". Dan Shh keep your big yap shut, it's our little secret. It's funny, I keep hearing people call it the banana belt. No! the Islands are in a Rain Shadow. Dryer, not warmer. Only concern I have with painting the containers is flaking off. Maybe roughing up the surface would help. Dan, The subject about the ice cube in the water glass. I'm about 45ft above sea level. I'm worried about the big ice cube in the large water glass. Comments (5)For what it's worth, check out Northern Greenhouse Sales. http://www.northerngreenhouse.com/ideas/gallery/index.htm This guy has been selling greenhouse poly for years. I bought some from him and built one of his "rebar" greenhouses, size 8' wide x 10' x 7' high for about $80 in materials. The plastic greenhouse film was excellent. Lasted about 5 years after which time the life in the film was shot. If you're ambitious enough you can design your own structure and build it yourself and save alot of money. AND have your greenhouse and shed too. (if you have the room.) my two cents. Eddie...See MoreStorage shed - HELP
Comments (23)I agree with Renee, wood all the way. Metal and vinyl are difficult if not impossible to paint and they begin fading on day one. If you change color or anything else on main house,it's easy to follow suit with wood shed, not so with metal or vinyl. I've seen back yard storage buildings built and/or decorated to resemble everything form old west saloons to fairyland doll houses that were actually additions to rather than distractions from backyard living....See MoreCori Ann - H0uzz violated my privacy
