IKEA fagerland cabinet facing
Comments (11)Hi, I like the Fagerland door, but just so you know, you don't have to limit yourself to IKEA or Scherr's for your doors. Any woodworker or cabinet company can make doors for IKEA cabinets. I know, as I am doing the same thing. Depending on the style of door you like, you can find many different vendors. You can google "replacement cabinet doors" and find a slew of them to browse. Once you find a door style you like, contact the company to see if they can bore the hinges for you for the Blum Inserta hinges. That is the IKEA hinge. The boring pattern is Blum Pattern B. The most important measurements are 3" on center, top and bottom, and 5mm from the door edge. The two pinholes flanking the hinge cup hole are 5mm on the IKEA doors, but 8mm standard. Some companies only do the 8mm insert holes, but you can buy standard Blum Inserta hinges and they will work with IKEA cabs. I have both hinges, and the only thing different about Blum for IKEA and standard Blum Inserta are the insert pins' size, otherwise they look exactly the same. Hope that helped a little....See MoreCustomizing Ikea Cabinets (inset)
Comments (9)there is no physical advantage to inset drawer fronts. storage capacity is the same as with (whatever the opposite of inset is called). drawer slide length is the same too. every dimension is the same. all range of motion is the same. in your first post you said that for inset scherr's needs accurate measurements. it is normal for scherr's to say that they need accurate measurements. it is normal to respond that the size will be ikea's size; they know what size that is. dieterhansi36 if you are intimidated by this, you are not qualified to DIY this nor to supervise a handyman who would work with ikea and scherr's. The stressors will turn this into a nightmare, even though it's just a series of boxes with everything square horizontal or vertical and with Blum parts that are freely available and with information freely available from Blum's technical support phone number and from the internet. For some people, it could be a no brainer. For others it is impossible to fathom, as there are variables and many things need to be read and studied. i'll guess you are willing to go with the regular system of overlaying drawer fronts that millions of people already have. It can look very good. With "frameless" there is a "frame" in the sense that there is a structure, the cabinet boxes. No point is made when you expose that structure with inset drawer fronts. It's just a cute special effect. Nothing is gained, except that you made your point that you knew how to ask for it and to pay for it. One day, someone might hurt your feelings by saying you were an idiot to spend extra money (and time and attention) in order to make no physical gain in any way. If you want to spend money on fancy things in order to show your discernment, buy clothing of the highest quality. There ARE physical advantages to that....See MoreBarker cabinet doors with Ikea cabinets? Has anyone done this?
Comments (11)You may absolutely purchase Ikea cabinets without doors either online or in person, whichever you prefer. Each cabinet is really a collection of, say,10 items, each with a part #. At the store, a kitchen person will add the cabinet you want in a Harlig door, for example, and then go in and just remove the door, leaving the other 9 items in your cart. If you go this route, double check size, configuration, and frame color (birch or white) while they're typing it in. Mistakes happen. If you're doing this online, simply select the item you want in the configuration you want, and click on the "Show dimensions, weight and article numbers" link. Then copy each article number into the search button at the top of the page, and the item will appear. Buy it online. Repeat with the next 9 part #s. When you come to a door, just don't buy it. GW is great for some types of info, but you should really check out the Ikeafans web site for more guidance. In order to use Barker doors, you will need the measurements for the doors. You can find these on the Ikea web site if you look hard enough, or you can check out the Ikeafans link below. You'll have to look up info on hinge cup cut out size and location. Barker will cut them wherever you want them, but you need to know what to select/ask for. It is worth comparing the cost of a Barker Cabinet vs. Ikea/Barker Door. For ordinary cabs there's not that big a savings to be had with Ikea. For tall pantry/oven cabinets, or corner cabinets, the difference is substantial. Also, when ordering through Barker Door, make sure to take note of the maximum door width that differs among styles. Good Luck! Here is a link that might be useful: Measurements...See MoreDiamond Cabinets vs Ikea cabinet boxes and Semi Handmade doors?
Comments (3)I was going to use IKEA until I heard about all of the delays in getting their cabinets. Instead I am having my frameless cabinets (natural finish maple) truly custom made. If going that route, I suspect you'd be looking at a total price that is comparable to doing IKEA boxes and Semihandmade or Scherr's doors....See MoreSonya Lunder
