Birds and Burning Bush seeds?

I planted a bunch of Burning Bushes before I knew they were invasive in some places. Anyhow.......I've seen sparrows eating the seeds in the past. Today, I noticed seeds everywhere on the ground/sidewalk, not near where I threw birdseed in the drive, but closer to the burning bushes.

They are everywhere and look whole. I do see some red pulp-like stuff around some of them, which made me think they were Burning Bush seeds. I've just never seen so many on the ground. Maybe they are undigestible? At first I thought these were some of the seeds I had thrown out in the driveway, but I'm pretty sure they're burning bush seeds. Anyone know anything about these seeds and if the birds poop them out whole?

Hi Mary, I found seeds on mine and they were germinating right on the plant. I did some research and found this....Propagation Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in a cold frame. Stored seed requires 8 - 12 weeks warm followed by 8 - 16 weeks cold stratification and can then be sown in a cold frame[78, 98]. When they are large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and grow them on in the greenhouse for at least their first winter. Plant them out into their permanent positions in late spring or early summer, after the last expected frosts. Cuttings of half-ripe wood, 5 - 8cm long taken at a node or with a heel, July/August in a frame. do understand two things ... seed/seedlings will not be 'maintenance-completely-free' .. until they mature.. which might take a few years ... you are not going to scatter some seed.. and be done with it ... and until they mature.. they will need PROPER WATER ... again.. going back to the dynamic that they will not be 'maintenance-completely-free '.. this year ... if you understand that.. you will win .. if you dont take some kind of care of them.. it wont matter what you do ... to put it another way.. whether a MATURE plant is maintenance-completely-free .. has really nothing to do with growing babes from seed ... most good nurseries [not bigboxstore] ... have trays of groundcover ... which you can tease apart.. and plant to cover ground ... the added expense.. will cut down the time and effort needing to baby babies .. i understand budget is an issue.. but if you want it done.. it might be worth the additional cost.. to avoid failure ... ken

Would not be the same clone raised from seeds. The 1990 USDA map is weak, use your minimum temperature history to determine what zone you are in. Note that USDA Hardiness Zones are based on average annual minimum temperatures and not record lows. Note also that some books present zone maps and zoning designation that resemble or appear to be adapted from the USDA map rather than exactly the same. Read each book's or catalogs discussion of their zone designations to find out what the basis is for them.
