Model NDF 120L.. Cute little wooden cabinet with electric heater. The problem is it is programmable. It runs for maybe 5 minutes and shuts off. I have now misplaced the instructions to program it which pretty much sounded Greek to me to begin with. I am extremely unhappy with this purchase. It is not at all like the "Amish" heater that my husband and I had that had ONLY HI, Medium , Low blower on it. This has HI blower , turns out great heat for 5 minutes and then shuts itself off..... period. No amount of changing temps , on and off will start it again until later. No idea how to program it with the remote and that didn't work anyway. If it didn't cost to much to ship it I would send it back!!

ELECTRIC??? That's the MOST expensive way to go. If you just want the entertainment of a fire then I guess it's fine. But if you're looking for anything else like heat.... OUCH. Do a Google for electric fireplaces and I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for. Up here electricity is VERY expensive at almost 15 cents per KWH. And power failures can come during a blizzard. So we have a real fire.

Yes! I ordered a fireplace insert thing that uses STEAM -- and we couldn't have chosen better. Don't remember the name, but we ordered it from Target. When the steam comes out it looks exactly like smoke. There are fake logs and orange lighting and we love it!. I decided that we really didn't need to see both sides of the fire at once, so I made black curtains to hang on the back side, making the two sided look (from the front) like a one sided. We just ignore the back side and it looks great.

Great inspiration photo. We are about to finish a basement. Originally wanted to do a vented gas fireplace but not able to with layout and cumbersome venting to outside. Few questions if you don’t mind. How do you like the electric fireplace? What kind is it? Do you use it for secondary heat in basement and if so, how does it do heating your space? We are looking to do something extremely similar to your design / bump out.
