Only you know if the cabinets bug you enough to spend the kind of money on them that it would take to make them the color that you want. But expecting any manufacturer to do anything after 6 years is unreasonable and ridiculous. There's not a chance that after 6 years of wear and tear that any cabinet maker will ever change those doors and drawers out. And no, they won't take them back and spray them either without charging you almost the same that they would for new doors and drawers---which is pretty much industry standard cost. That's actually MORE work than finishing the doors was in the first place. And it wouldn't take care of the face frames. If you want to have them professionally sprayed by a painter that knows what he's doing, then expect to spend 3-7K on the project. And it won't be a factory finish. But it will be easier for you to touch up with "regular" paint than a factory finish will be.

Move! Run now! :-) seriously though, how extensive of a renovation were you planning? It's galvanized pipe which has probably built up with a bunch of sediment over time. Ideally you would want to replace it with copper/Pex, but that kind of opens up a can of worms as to how far back you would want to go. It's nice to have new pipe running into new fixtures, but you won't get great new water pressure until you replace most of the pipes. As for the wall, that's crumbly plaster and it is pretty loose - hard to tell how big the area is, but you could get out what falls out easily, and put a patch in. We reno-ed our bath that was plaster, saved the original floor tile, etc... We did it by working on one thing at a time (electric, patch walls, plumbing, patch walls) Because of our family/home layout, we needed to keep as much of it operational as long as we could - in hindsight if we could have just gutted the whole room it would have been a bazillion times easier.

Did you ever decide what to do about this? Can you post a new picture showing the current state of the fireplace. It would be great if you can take the picture standing back about 8 or 10 feet straight in front of the fireplace so the opening appears as square as possible in the picture. If you do that, I can photoshop some ideas.

I think you found your solution. :) Command hooks can be a godsend when we're iffy about our wall decor selections. Other tricks: butcher block paper cutouts if attempting a collage of any sort.
