Oooohhh thanks Squirrel! Based on that mock up I think I really like the ebony one. The dark color is jumping out at me. I plan on changing out that rug. I am looking for an oriental rug or something with some bright blues in it. I don't know if that would make a difference. thanks guys .. I think I will stain it dark!~

You could try dyebrick.com. It is brick/masonry stain. Try on a sample of similar color brick first, though; it only comes off with a powerwash! Assuming of course that you want to keep it....you could also remove the brick and replace with something different. We have done that before, it was very messy but not difficult. If you decide to do that, do it Before you move furniture into the room...

Depends on where you are and how expensive wood is and how able you are to split, stack and haul wood. Natural gas has many environmental negatives, too, so it's hard to say which is worse for the environment. The most important thing, after inspection and cleaning is to burn really dry wood and burn it hot so there is less smoke and particulates. You could also look at a wood insert. They reduce the pollution and provide more heat for your home. There are some really beautiful units. They provide heat and cooking options if you live somewhere that the power goes off frequently or even occasionally. It can keep you from freezing and the house warm enough to prevent pipes from freezing. There is really nothing like the warmth and ambience of a wood fire. Have it cleaned every year before you start fires for the winter. I have mine cleaned in the summer when demand for chimney sweeps is lower. If you add an insert, I think they will probably add a liner to your chimney to handle the higher temp fires.
