I buy the coated (regular) hooks. I assume it's plastic coated, but I guess it could be paint. I feel like they are a little sturdier, but I also hate the way the plain metal feels and the way my hands feel/smell after handling them. Weird, I know ;0)

Few years ago I bought brass hooks at Hallmark after Christmas. They're strong and hold their shape. Looks like they're sold out now and the ones available on eBay are highway robbery!

I just use a heavy florist wire....buy it on a spool. Works for me.

I just did a search, but most places are out of stock or ridiculously expensive. You may want to hold off until July when the next round of Christmas stuff is starting to hit the shelves.

Buy a spool in green and 110 yards will last a lifetime.

The paper clips are a thought....But no way am I going to hand make ornament hooks from florists wire. There must be approx. 200 on my tree, just decorating the tree is time consuming enough. (not to mention un-decorating it, have not done that yet)

I ended up with a package that must have been 100 of those flimsy hooks this year too. So wimpy, the weight of a few of my ornaments straightened them, what the heck is that about.

I would love to be able to say with conviction that I'll wait for the Hallmark ones to show up again at my local store...my cheapskate self doesn't want to pay as much as what they want on ebay.

I use thick button/coat thread and loop it through. The thick thread never tangles.

I don't hand make hooks.....I just cut off a small piece of florist wire, loop it through the ornament top and and tie the wire on the tree. Also use it to tie the ornaments on the garland on my fireplace. I can tie it as close to the branch as i want to or let it hang a little. I find it better than hooks because hooks are all one length and generally too long.

The hooks found today are horrible. I have mostly really old ones and they are so more superior in every way. I have used floral wire. It's preferable to the new horrible hooks.

I have bought decorative hooks from Dillards that are attractive and sturdy but it has been a few years.

I use yarn to hang ornaments.

I used to buy colored wire from Hobby Lobby and make my own. Curiques at the top and bottom. Simple and fun.

I bought hooks this year and was shocked at how flimsy they were! So different than all my old hooks.

Looks like some of you found a way to get your desires fulfilled ...

... but some of you got hooked! ?
