Gardenia In Al's Gritty Mix?
Comments (52)Aslan...... The fact that you said..."there still MUST be plenty of moisture scares me" worries me..lol You can't take a chance with gardenia when it comes to moisture in your root zone, especially at a time like this. Do yourself and your tree a favor and get a wooden barbecue skewer or a wooden dowel and check for moisture in the root zone to make 'absolutely' certain there is until you get use to watering the mix. You can't afford to let the root zone go completely dry and you can't afford to over water either. You have to make sure that when you pull the stick out after checking the roots that it is not dry, nor still wet. With gardenia, you need to water before it gets completely dry, evenly moist they call it..Get it? :-) Newgen..How are you? The 5.1.1 mix is good for short term plantings and the gritty mix for long term plantings within the same pots for periods of time. Both are excellent though and it's up to you to choose onne that lasts longer than the other. Good luck:-)...See MoreMiami/CoralGables ... 10b meet

Comments (78)Carolyn, I have read a lot of Frank's work and I think she is slipping a bit. Somewhat reminiscent of A.R. Siddon's novels, which get quite repetitive in their vocabulary and plots. (e.g. I think she used "spavined" as an adjective in every book she ever wrote!). I have just finished Ian Caldwell's "The Fifth Gospel." The author claims it took him 10 years to write. In a sense, it is a "tour de force" in terms of scholarship re early Christian church history. The plot has many twists and turns. It is also a study of the separation of the Eastern Orthodox patriarchy from the Western Catholics and the papacy. The novel puts a very human face on the late Polish Pope as well as the Vatican as a small nation unto itself. (Caldwell's previous novel was "The Rule of Four.")....See MoreCurrent temperature in AL, what's yours?
Comments (36)Cooler outside than in my house. I carry a hand towel around with me to wipe the sweat off my face, neck, and arms. This is crazy. I don't think I've ever noticed the heat like this before. But......tomorrow a rep is coming to check out the current duct work of my old furnace to see if it will be compatible with a brand new central air unit! I ordered a new furnace in April which they will be installing in a month or two, so after much thought and going over the figures, I called today to say I'm interested in the CA after all. Originally I declined because of the cost of the unit and the possibility of having to install all new duct work which he said would be $$$. Plus I just never thought I'd ever have CA in this old house. The cold air might go out the holes! ha. We shall see tomorrow. Oh my goodness, and I think upper 80's and lower 90s is hot. Sorry for all of you who are enduring those higher temps....See More- 8 years ago
