Rose, Let us know how you like it. I'd love to be able to have fresh spices thru the winter. The grocery store variety don't seem very fresh and are expensive.

I see them in use at a friend’s house. She keeps herbs in hers. She gave me one last Christmas, but I’ve never set it up.

They do hum but I had mine on a counter between the kitchen and dining room and it never bothered us one bit. I had fresh basil, dill, and parsley growing in mine. I did assorted greens too.

I have one still in the box from last Christmas. I was waiting until the kitchen remodel was done...for the most part it is...I guess I should get it out.

I have an older model in my bathroom. It's always full of petunias and gorgeous. I love it. Herbs i grow in water glasses in the kitchen. Somehow, it just don't seem right to grow them in The bathroom. :-!

Sheesh, how do you grow herbs in water glasses? Do you have to keep them under a grow light?

Sjerin, no grow lights, just a northern exposure window. Green onions, chives, basil, all grow easily in water as long as the root is attached and there is some of the herb on it. I use clear glass or plastic cups so i can monitor the root activity and water level.

If I had one, I'm sure it wouldn't look as lush as that.........not exactly a gardener.

Nah, you can't go wrong, georgysmom. They're foolproof, no trouble, and always lush. Mine is a three-pod, and I only use one petunia pod at a time for a very full garden that lasts several months.

sjerin, easy way to do it is to buy a package of fresh basil from the grocery and remove the bottom two leaves and place stem in a glass of water. In about a week you'll have roots growing from that spot. Just keep it covered with water and they'll soon start producing new leaves from the top of the plant. I usually put 3 or four stems in a glass.

I don't use a lot of basil, so I pinch and it keeps growing. I bought the original plant in the grocery a year or more ago.

I cut Off Half An Inch or less Of white part of The Root End Of Green Onions, Drop It In a Glass, Cover the root With water, And Before I Know It, It Has Shoots. I Usually put Several Roots In One Glass. I Have At Least Two or three Glasses Going At Once in various stages. Once They're Established, I Have Enough for several meals.

I dug up a chunk of chives From My Garden Years Ago But didn't Use Them Right Away. Hubby Plunked them In a glass of water to preserve them and before we knew it, we had more chives in the kitchen. That's when I started growing things in the kitchen. I've also often grown philodendron and other house plants to huge vines in water.

Oh, I didn't realize you can root herbs from a stem! Am I understanding this correctly? And who knew you could also do it with onions. Do you put fertilizer in the water? (I would use something organic.)

No, just plain water. Good luck! It's interesting. The aerogrow supplies fertilizer for its pots, but I don't use any with my herbs.
