Yikes and I thought we were cold in the single digits...we have light snow too.

We are warmer here in the U.P. of Michigan at 10°, however, there are blizzard conditions. I saw lows in the minus single digits and one of -18° overnight last week. Winter is here with a vengeance.

Notice that Debby's temp is Centigrade. Still...it is cold in the northern parts of North American. Expected high for us in west central Florida is 66 today; a chilly 42 when I went for my walk this morning.

I think it was 14 the last time I checked Weather Channel. Lots of snow on the ground this morning and it's still lightly snowing as of 10:47am. I filled the bird feeders and threw out some more ear corn for the cardinals and rabbits. I like to see "Mr. Hops" out under the feeders right before I turn in for the night. It seems the rabbits come out more often on cold clear nights. Good hunting for owls too.

We were at a balmy -24º this morning after -32º two days ago. The sun isl shining, though, so that's a plus. Supposed to warm up a bit in a couple of days.

Debby - My sister lives in Calgary and posted this this morning. We have a cousin who lives in the Fraser Valley (B.C,) and they have had a lot of freezing rain the past few days. They are comparing horror weather stories. My cousin was without power yesterday as the freezing rain was bringing down trees and powerlines.

My sister's daughter is a paramedic in Calgary and the conditions have been extremely challenging for them the past few days.`

I'm in Vancouver with typical winter weather - cold and rain, but the highways out of the city are so bad the only direction we can drive safely is south to the US. :)

Weather is supposed to become sunny for the next few days which will help to clear the highways and allow people to get home safely from Christmas vacations and for New Years.

It has finally creeped up to 15 degrees today which is cold but two days ago I got up to 15 below!

blfenton, my sister and my parents are in Abbotsford. I messaged my sister to see if she lost power yesterday, but I don't think she did. We were texting each other last night. But I don't know about my parents. They don't have cell phones, so if their power went out, we have no way of knowing. Land lines now use a regular power source to plug in a land line phone, unlike the old days where when the power went out, phones still worked because the phone lines were separate. :( I am supposed to go to the grocery store and can't even get dressed: I'm still in my housecoat. LOL My son drove all the way to work this morning and had no idea what lane he was driving on. He works near Stoney and Glenmore. He gets to work to find out they didn't open today........... goofball. My other son said he saw so many cars on the side of the road with their hazard lights on, a few of them were facing the wrong direction. One would think that after living in this city for five minutes we would get used to driving on snow and ice. Some people just can't figure it out.

It's balmy here in PA, in the 20's. It's the highest it's been in days and tomorrow will be much colder as will the next 7-10 days. We finally had snow last night. Nothing till now and we have 3-4 inches. Erie has 66 and a foot more to come. I don't know how they handle that. I'm worried about my koi. We don't have bees this winter and I'm glad because I'm sure this prolonged cold would kill them. We had a small period of cold in Feb 2015 which killed them.

It was 5F on our home thermometer this morning. Got up to 11F by noon. Now the sensor is in the sun... wow, 23F! We have an inch or two of snow on the ground. Haven't needed plowing.

I wonder how cold it will be at 4 a.m. Tuesday when we get up to take a cab to ORD for a 7 a.m. flight. Maybe I should stop posting and pack?

I just talked to my mom: she and dad were without power for 16 hours. They can close the doors from the kitchen to the hallway and dining area leaving the kitchen, nook and family room open. She said she lit a ton of candles, doubled up on thick sweaters and covered up in a blanket. She said she was nice and warm, but dinner sucked. Went to bed at 9 last night and woke up at 10 this morning. LOL My younger sister didn't know about the outage until five minutes ago and told mom she would have gone over and brought them to her house had she known. My parents are 84 and 86 and Dutch meaning very stubborn. They never ask for help....... But will next time. It's just good they don't get the frigid cold Calgary gets. It's "warmed" up to -34C with the windchill at 1:15 this afternoon........

Wow, it IS cold there. We have 15F, feels like 4 with the wind whipping as it is. Wish I could share my fireplace with you. :)

5 above here in midafternoon in north Missouri. It'll be several days before we get this warm again, they say. :(

It is -25 here in the middle of SD this morning. No wind though.

We've had cold weather too. In the -20's C. This morning it's -27C. We haven't had any wind at all, which makes a huge difference. It's actually quite nice out, because it isn't blowing.

Niagara Falls is actually frozen.

It is COLD here in KY and I have not gotten dressed today (robe feels so cozy). Slept well last night - love sleeping in a cold room - delicious to be warm and cozy in bed with the air in the room frosty. When it's cold, I just want to hibernate with the dog on my lap, snoring.

On our morning walk, dog Roxy reminded us that the expression "steaming pile of sh__" isn't just an expression.

nickel... YOU win the prize. definitely a LOL moment! hasn't come within about 5-10 degrees of freezing in probably close to a week, with no "heat-wave" in sight. cannot imagine how anyone could prepare for tomorrow's Eagles/Cowgirls game in Philly.

I stepped outside a few minutes ago, to toss some grungy dish water out the back door. My damp hand immediately frosted on the outside door handle. Reminded me of the kid sticking his tongue on the flagpole.

Mama goose, I had something similar happen, I have a stray barn cat that I feed and water every day and early evening when I took his water and food out, some of the water spilled on my glove and when I went to open the door my glove stuck to the metal barn door handle.

That minus 28 degrees Celsius/centigrade that Debby spoke of in Calgary ...

... was about minus 18 degrees F.

At minus 40 - both are the same. That happens fairly frequently on our prairies in winter ... and in some of the northern states, as well (if a little less frequently).
