A simple way to solve your dilemma. Cut out templates the size of the 2 lights and tape them up on the house. You didn't mention how tall your house is or how much space you have on the garage where those lights are going. Remember that when someone is standing at your front door, those lights will appear larger than they will when viewed from a street in front. Most errors occur when the lights are too small when viewed from the street. Try the cut outs and you will be able to decide. Brown paper or brown cardboard are good to use. If the fixtures are going to be dark, use a dark material. Anyone can have an opinion, but it is your opinion that really matters, once you have a visual reference. There is no right or wrong answer to your question. A lot has to do with the visual weight of the fixtures. Is all of the length in fixture body or is some of that a bottom finial or top and bottom scrools ? Make sure your cutouts replicate the shape as well as the size.

Wasteful in what respect? He's redistributing his income and wealth and is doing so without government making choices on his behalf as though government apparatchiks know what is best. His wealth is being sunk into this house, thus enriching workers who construct it plus workers who fabricate the components. His income will be spent on a monthly basis to keep the house operating, thus also enriching people who are doing productive work. Is it better to live in a small house and then jet off to Bali to soak up some sun and then off to Gstaad in order to glide down a snowy mountain on two sticks of wood/fiberglass? Both ways involve spending money. Almost everything in life is wasteful. Look at how much electricity, money and resources are poured into creating the infrastructure of the internet which essentially exists so people can waste their time arguing about inconsequential issues. Look at pro sports and movies - they exist simply to entertain, wouldn't it be better for people to shear some sheep and spin their own wool instead of wasting time going out to dinner or to a play? After shearing the sheep they can butcher it, why waste gasoline driving to a supermarket to buy meat, and then after dinner play charades, why waste money on having other people entertain you? I'd rather he waste his money on his house rather than have that "excess" money taken by government and given to others. At least something positive develops from his fashion of wasting money.

I think that this garage height differential to the main floor is an often overlooked detail even in custom homebuilding. Even in my first build, we had more steps into the house than I would have wanted. That appears to have been a function of not wanting to dig the foundation for the main house lower ($$$) for the basement or crawlspace, since the garage is a slab. So I need up with 4 steps into the house and had to take some valuable real estate for stairs AND a landing at the top (which I think you need for anything over 2 steps...). And I've seen instances with FAR more. So that garage on paper is rarely an accurate reflection of the "as built" site interpretation....

All useful and helpful so far. Further details, if it matters: Garage is a 900 sqft attached garage, with sheetrocked, uninsulated, 2X6 walls, double-sheetrocked ceiling with no insulation. and insulated doors. Heater has a steel hanging bracket that you bolt to the ceiling joists. Minimum distance from any wall is 6” and bracket provides automatic spacing from ceiling. The breaker box is on a wall about 6‘ from the location of the heater and I was planning for the cable to go about 18” from the back of the heater through an armored jacket until I got to the wall, and then bring the wire up through the wall cavity to the open and accessible attic, and finally back down through the wall cavity to the breaker box. I already have a 30 amp, double pole breaker, and two free slots. I’m in the Pacific NW, so the climate is mild. Would only be using the heater on winter days when the temps outside are in the mid-40’s F down to possibly the mid-20’s. The inside of the garage on the coldest days never gets worse than the high 30’s. I just want to be comfortable doing woodworking.
