Comments (10)The only way I make it through January and February is marking up my seed catalogs. Denninmi, hope you are recuperating well... and chaman, keep thinking good green thoughts and hope you will be able to start gardening again in the not-too-distant future (have you thought maybe of doing a small container with a pepper plant or something to tide you over until you can plant a full garden?)...See MoreLooking for OP corn variety with "old timey" flavor for roasting
Comments (10)I've tried a few heirloom sweet corns. The only variety I can remember by name that I rejected (for flavor) was Country Gentleman. (It seemed pretty much like the pure "glue" taste to me at the time.) The two I might grow again are Golden Bantam and Ashworth. Ashworth made a wimpy plant, but it might have had slightly sweeter corn than Golden Bantam and it was extra early. I've gotten to where I prefer hominy from the local heirloom dent corn I grow, and I don't care as much for sweet corn any more, but after all these years I really ought to try some of the field corn I grow in the milk stage....See MoreChoosing Mirai Corn Variety
Comments (1)Depends on whether you prefer white, yellow, or bicolor. I grow 421 W which is superb. Nice large ears and excellent flavor. It is a synergistic and has better corn flavor than a supersweet. 148Y is one of their older varieties and is a supersweet ( needs to be isolated from regular corn). I have not grown it. nor am I familiar with 301 BC It also needs to be isolated from Su and se types and is about 5 days later maturity. I am more familiar with the synergistic 336 BC which has the same big ears and early maturity of 421 W....See Morelooking for baby corn varieties....
Comments (3)I know EXACTLY what you need. 'Chires Baby' is a corn that can bear a dozen or more ears per stalk. Very impressive and probably the most efficient way to grow stir-fry corn. Southern Exposure is a wonderful company with neat heirlooms and great customer service, you can order with confidence from them.
