Quartz countertop Sun exposure and bleach
Comments (15)oldryder correct, some quartz brands have carbon of black as the colouring agent for darker stone. This is not common practice though does exist. Carbon of black is not chemically or UV stable and hence will be why your scenario has occurred. UV light will accelerate damage caused by Salts and Surfactant exposure. This also applies to any exposure to TDS (total dissolved salts) in the air. Caused by being within 7 kms of a salt water body. E.g Ocean or Canal. With high humidity and TDS this will leave a layer of salt across any surface. Why rusting is bad in these areas or even tea staining to metals. The quartz stone does not like long exposure to any alkalines. Salts are highly alkaline. UV light will accelerate the damage of salts and surfactants. So yes agree with your statement but is not why the likes of Snow from Caesarstone or other brands yellow. This also occurs on the marble look ranges as patchy yellow or brownish stains....See MoreCountertop choices - quartz white?
Comments (14)Thanks all, I'm still deciding and just got a very different quote for each - $3600 for Caesarstone Ocean Foam (ready a day earlier than Zodiaq) vs. $2800 for DuPont Zodiaq, apparently the Caesarstone requires 2 slabs (one for the island, one for the rest of the kitchen) driving the price up. And this is from someone known for good price and speedy delivery. I decided that all things equal I prefer the Zodiaq Cloud White because it's a shade whiter than the Caesarstone Ocean Foam 6141 (I saw samples in person - I've attached a pic of them side by side, the smaller sample is the Zodiaq) but the countertop places I'm dealing with are more familiar with Caesarstone and said no other quartz company has better customer service, that Caesarstone stands by their products in a way that others don't (they send a rep to fix problems etc.), so is that worth an extra $800 for the color I like less? My contractor says it's a no brainer and to go with the cheaper one I like better, and there are unlikely to be major problems anyway. I'm probably going that route... and hoping it works out... I also read that Caesarstone has a lifetime warranty on its quartz vs. 10 year limited warranty from Zodiaq? So I'm slightly concerned but hey, prefer the Zodiaq. As for the edge, I'm leaning toward straight or 3/8" beveled (which is what we have in the kitchen we're leaving now, and it's nice)....See MoreSilestone Pulsar
Comments (53)Let’s see some pulsar pics!! I have white cabinets (Benjamin Moore white dove) and a natural cedar island so thinking that pulsar will work well. I thought I liked the polished finish- I like the shiny look, when everything else is matte- the wall paint, cabinets (semi gloss I think) and wood island .... but everyone on this thread is raving about suede finish. Hmmm. I do have 3 little kids.... hmm..... This is a new construction.......See MoreAnyone have Silestone countertops in Ocean Jasper?
Comments (215)@TerryShields, if your countertop slab is more tannish, in my opinion you lucked out because that is thw color I personally was wanting. Mine is more gray. It is beautiful regardless. Our Lowe's store sample as well as the sample from another place was the tannish I was wanting but when the slab came in, it was the gray. I will also let you know there are white spots of different sizes that were not visible in any of the samples. I would prefer they not be there but what's done is done....See MoreSandra L
