Opinions please...a new listing to consider
Comments (24)Oh my I grew up with 5 brothers and assorted foster kids and we only had one bathroom. Yea it can be done but what really concerns me is the fact that they hve that huge pool so they MUST entertain. So how on earth can one bathroom work when you entertain?? I mean its one thing for me, Frank and the kids to share a bathroom but to host a large gathering with one bathroom could be a disaster in the making!! The house seems very big from the exterior pics...look at the balloon pics. I am also guessing from the balloom pics that there is no driveway...but yea the one shed looks large enough to put Franks 76 camaro in LOL!! The yellow Vicky (lakehurst) while it had a great garage-FIL said you could prob get 8 cars in there-no kidding!! The basement was indeed an issue plus all the bedrooms were too small-the living room was odd "L" shape. Its a shame cuz I really liked the house from the outside and I really wanted to fall in love with the inside and be done with it but it just wasn't so. On the Red Bank house there if a full basement and a 3rd floor open area. As for my house no new bites. Had a showing scheduled last week but it was a no show! Yea I was pi$$ed!! My house is in the HOMES book this week-the book you get at the grocery store. On the same page is a bubble telling home buyers about $7800 housing grants available so maybe we'll get some action this weekend!! In the meantime I painted my kitchen cabinets this morning. I also went to get some new pulls but they don't carry my size so tomorrow I will paint them too. We also looked at new ranges-we can get one for under $300. The range I have now has issues-while it looks good, I always have to light the jets...Damn new flooring makes everything else look old and tired LOL!!! Frank pointed the front today too...there were some settling issues that needed to be addressed-he did a great job!! Now I think its finally all done...maybe LOL!! Thanks for all the feedback-I really value the opinions I get here!! You all are like a little voice of reason!! Cheers! Susie...See Morerepaint or replace cabinets?
Comments (7)Some questions to consider.... 1) Is the budget tight? Can you afford the kitchen renovation? You mention wanting to do other things to the home. French doors, shower surround, tub, walkin shower, wood in master bath.... 2) Will you be happy with painted kitchen cabinets? 3) What part of the kitchen bothers you the most? Is it the cabinets, counter, arch, island, appliances.... One thing my husband and I did was list all the changes we wanted to make in our renovation. And then the approx cost of each. We then checked off the must change list and narrowed it all down. For example our floors needed to be redone, but this was not a kitchen only reno, this was a whole house change. This was part of our list and budget. We listed the must change items from 1 to 15. One being the first change that has to happen. This helped us to figure out what was truly important, what change was a have to, a want to, a need to... 4) Is this a home you plan to live in 20 years, 10 years or just 5 years? 5) Can you get these reno plans itemized? 6) Is this an ongoing process? Bathroom this year, kitchen next year, living room 2014, lawn 2016... You get the idea. For me, we are only living here a few more short years and then we are off to build a home. So my kitchen reno has been modified to include only the have tos not the want tos. Although I love my have tos. Hope these thoughts help. ~boxer...See MoreSettling too much or does the perfect house not exist?
Comments (26)Ahhh, the question to end all questions. I am househunting as well, and have asked myself the same question many times, so I don't know that I have the best answer for you. Plus you factor in the differences in opinion between the family members and that makes it even more complicated. It is different for every person out there that is house hunting based on their needs. Here is one thing that helped me a bit when my mom pointed it out based on something that I said about one particular house....think of how you live and your day to day activities. Now think of doing all that in that house. How does it work? Are you struggling to find a place to put your coat and shoes without a coat closet? Is that important to you? Are your kids bikes in the way of backing out your car when want to navigate that tight driveway? When you wake up in the morning, do you want to have a quiet place away to drink your coffee and check your email like that loft? Or will that just be wasted space that you feel that you have to furnish and wont ever use? If you want to have children, what happens with the 3 bedroom thing? What if your teen kids don't want to share? Just sit back and imagine yourself living there. Reality is, some things will drive some people crazy, when it is embraced by somebody else. The house hunt is obviously filled with give and take, but what matters the most is what works for you....See Morewould a busy street keep you from buying?
Comments (35)We live on a busy (well, sorta busy) street on the corner of a residential street. The street is busiest during the commuting times. This is when all the people from the side roads take our road to the "main" road. During the off times and weekends our road is not very busy. We bought our house because it was a good price (because of being on a busier road) and it was EXACTLY what we were looking for and we were looking for an old (old!) house with a nice yard. Our lot is the largest in the area also and has trees surrounding the property and the backyard has a 6ft privacy fence. The back yard is like our oasis. We are big gardeners and we have plenty of land for that. We do get garbage on the front lawn but my sister also complains about that and she lives in a small neighborhood. When I complained about it one day she commented " it happens everywhere now". People seem to be stupid now and don't care where they throw there junk. The biggest thing I would like to change about my house is not the traffic but I would LOVE to have sidewalks. There are many walkers/runners and having sidewalks would be nice. I love the location of our house (close to everything that WE want to be close to). We used to live in the city and I loved it but my husband wanted to be out in the burbs. We almost have the best of both worlds (close to everything yet big lot and house ect.) If I could move my house to the city and had to deal with more traffic, I would. I like to be able to walk to stores. So, I know I would buy a house another house on a busy road if we knew it was a fit for us. Our friends purchased houses on quiet streets and they got less house, in a less nice area for the same money as us. It is a tradeoff and only you will know if it is a tradeoff you will be ok with. Also, I wouldn't mind if my street became busier if they put in deli's or little shops that I could walk too. I like the main street feel. We had little choice when we bought our house. The majority of old, historic houses are on main roads. If you are looking for a new house you will have more choices and the new house on a busy road may not sell easily. Once we find the right buyer (old house lover) I do not think they will have issues with the traffic. If we wanted a new build, we would NOT have purchased a house on a busy road. -renee...See Moreterilyn
