Both are AMAZING. I have had both for three years and they are coming back strong this year. The color of Pow Wow is vibrant. The blooms are smaller than Pica Bella. The flower petals on Pica Bella are so pointed and unique. It really stands out in the garden. I couldn't pick a favorite between the two. They both look so good, especially together. If money is an issue, seeds of Pow Wow are cheaper. I think you should try both of them. I would buy the Pow Wow plants locally if you are worried about the size. They are generally compact, but there can be various sizes in a seed variety.

I like White Swan too. Tall, reliable and beautiful, unless the voles get to it - mine are recovering from near vole decimation 2 years ago. Also have a bunch of 'Primadonna White' seedlings, that are in their 3rd season. They didn't bloom the first year, were transplanted last year so it wasn't much of a show, but I'm so excited to see how they do this year along with the Pow Wow Wild Berry and Bravado seedlings. That photo of PWWB is very nice, I hope mine look like that, but in general I would have to say the other seedlings are much stronger growers than PWWB. I just bought seeds of Echinacea 'Baby Swan' and have a bunch of little sprouts. Supposedly a short (2 foot) cultivar of White Swan. Here's my white swan a few years back -

That is some Ech. I'd be dividing or at least taking a slip with roots. That's the problem with seed - variety, good and bad. I've had no luck with Wildberry. Get four plants - one overwinters, repeat. Still love the Kalimeris. I see it's still blooming.

I would definately start them now, you'll get good growth now and then come springtime they will have the established root systems needed to really explode into growth and flower. I usually start them in a flat of soil or in pots in a spot that doesn't get more than a couple hours of sun. You can move them to a sunnier spot later. The biggest problems will be drying out and bugs such as slugs. A cover of either light cloth or plastic will help keep in the moisture, just be careful of the plastic getting too hot in the sun. Don't over it all the way of your not sure. Transplant them into the ground as soon as they're a decent size, a good mulch after the first freeze will protect them from frost heaving up out of the ground over winter.... Dry leaves, evergreen branches.... I just got an email from one of the seed catalogs reminding people what a good time summer is to start perennials....
