tea rose Rosette Delizy
Comments (2)I have 2 Rosettes, on Fort., from FSC.... no spray... they show some signs of Chili Thrips but no BS, they still put out some blooms but very small and they drop after a day or two... they suffer from the heat and the chili thrips.... but are good producers during the winter, I'm a patient person and am glad I tried them, but don't plan on getting any more of Rosette D., Mrs. BR Cant does better but she is so huge, also the Chinas do better....however, Rosette D. is not real big like Mrs. Cant so fits in a smaller space.... if I had the room, I'd get more Mrs. Cant, also Prosperity, she is a blooming wonder and nothing bothers her....LOL, sally...See MoreRosette Delizy again
Comments (19)Thanks. I purchased (from VIntage) and planted this one myself, about 8 years ago. It grew tall immediately, but took a while to start blooming well. I think all of my tea roses liked all of the rain we got this winter after (I hope it is over) our horrible drought. They are all blooming great right now. My RD is quite reliable now - blooms in flushes (not as big as the first one) all Spring and Summer and into the Fall. Tea roses were made for the climate here, and visa versa. Comments (5)Jim - I live in San Rafael, CA, and I grow both of these roses. I think either would do well in your garden. My only doubt would be that you say the space gets misted daily. My Grandmother's Hats (I have several - did you know that they will root if you just stick pruning cuttings in the ground? It's true!) get horrible "damask crud", which I am told is a form of BS, in the Spring. That is, if we have a wet Spring. Totally coated with it. I have to cut off all of the leaves, and cut the plants way down to get rid of it. As soon as they weather becomes warm and dry (which as you know is a period of at least 6 months here) they are totally healthy and happy with not a sign of any disease (I don't spray). So, I do not know what their reaction would be to being constantly misted. My Rosette Delizy never gets any disease, no matter how cool or wet our Springs are. Color - totally different, as you know. Matter of taste. Habit - RD is more tall and upright. My mature one is 7-8 feet tall and then filled out to about 5-6 feet wide. I think GH can be pruned to be almost any shape/size you want. I have one I have not pruned (once it re-grew after its Spring haircut), and it is about 7 feet tall and 6 feet wide. I have another one which I keep about 4 feet tall with no problem. Re alkaline soil, I have no idea, as we don't have that. Jeri does, I believe, so I would go with whatever she says. Jackie...See MoreRosette Delizy
Comments (10)I love this rose, even if it IS just 4 feet tall here, lol. She outdoes herself in the fall with even more vibrant color in the Fall than in the Spring. I doubt she'll ever reach 6' here (this is her fourth year), much less 10', but she makes up for it with exuberance: she's almost never without at least a smattering of bloom, and the beginning and end of the season are spectacular. And for some reason when I look at her I think, "THAT is a French rose". It recalls French silks, French hats, French romance. Did I mention I love this rose?...See MoreDara McKay
