Is this counter too busy to use in entire kitchen??
Comments (67)Michelle16, your island counter could not be any more gorgeous! I absolutely love it! I am trying to remember what I tested for etching...it's been a few weeks and my brain is mush from all of these counter options. I know for sure that the superwhite etched and I thought the macaubus etched also...I could be wrong on that as I'm just going from memory and not going down to pull out my samples to check. The piece of calacatta I had was one that I grabbed from the showroom myself and it does not specify whether it's a marble or quartzite so I'm wondering if it was a marble instead... The place I went to today had some calacatta quartzite that looks just like yours at one of their other locations. I may have them transfer it here. You seem to be quite happy w/yours. I also like the Princess White and the Superwhite Extra that I posted above. I even considered having Clearstone applied to the superwhite. The superwhite is a lot cheaper and it would probably even out if I decide to go that route. Mgoblue85, I've been to Universal (Madison Heights), Mont (Farmington), Ciot (not sure what city...Coolidge & 13 Mile), and then T&M. They all had their positives and negatives. I believe that Universal and Mont both had the stone you are looking for if it doesnt work out at T&M. Of course I would call before I went to make sure. That's a really beautiful stone. Good luck!...See MoreShow me your etched counters!
Comments (16)Ditto on getting a sample piece to see how you really feel about etches. This is what I wrote on another thread. Hola, Do you have another focal point other than the countertop? How would you feel during the in-between period, between when it's brand sparkling new and the end beautiful patina stage? In due time, all the scratchings and etchings will all patina together. But until then, I love my new layout, my fabulous windows/loads of light pouring in (perfect for Spring weather), and toasty toes from the radiant heating, so that I barely notice the countertop so much. We did get gorgeous Vermont marble countertop and full backsplash behind the hood. But my gorgeous countertop was the #4 on my most loved list. 1. New better layout. 2. fabulous 5 down-to-countertop wall of windows 3. radiant floor heating 4. honed marble countertop I thought I wouldn't mind the etching much, but the 3 (now 10+) spots/areas are so very noticeable in my eyes. My DH and kids are very untidy, never cleaning up after themselves. So while I am telling myself to just live w/ the slow patina process, it bothers me that I spent so much money on something that annoys me so much. If I didn't have the other 3 top plus other stuff (my new mudroom) to distract me, it would bother me to see a new etch every other week, etc. Good luck, Amanda...See MoreAny home owners who have used 'Clearstone' on their marble countertops
Comments (25)LOL 'Just remember, you can grow to love reliable and utilitarian a lot easier than you can a demanding diva.' !!! Thanks Joseph I understand now - sorry I misunderstood… I completely agree which is why clearstone is off the table for us….I know nothing is perfect - I was pointing out that for the cost I don't want to end up with a product that scratches more or at a minimum shows scratches more With very low expectations I am going to take one last look at some granite slabs (though I have no expectations of finding anything since I am not a fan of the 'speckling'), see if there are any quartzites I like (real quartzites I mean - not the super whites etc) and then make a decision before I kill any more brain cells….we will probably make a decision between the caesarstone calacatta nuvo or LG's minuet - (I agree Sophie that you still need to take care of these) with 4 yr old twins eating/drawing etc at the island I think I will be a much more relaxed mommy!...See Morewhat is this stone? Comments (10)Beautiful material, but it almost looks like two different pieces of stone! Because of this, you could end up with two sections of your countertop that don’t match at all. Are you prepared for this? Make sure that you have all the details about how your countertop layout will be placed on the slab, where seams will fall, how they will (or won’t) match, etc. Lots and lots of pre-planning will help you end up with a countertop that you love,...See Morecpartist
