Anyone with Shiloh Cabinets Silas stain on Maple?

Hi! We are in the process of choosing a stain for our cabinets. We are leaning towards Shiloh silas stain on maple. We brought a sample home and it appears to be more rustic looking than I thought. In certain lights I love it, and in others not so much. Has anyone used this stain for your cabinets? How do you like it? Does it appear gray to you? If you have any pictures to share that would be great. Thanks in advance

Silas is definitely a gray stain. It's REALLY gorgeous on Alder. I have a display of that in my showroom. Here is a job I did in Silas alder...new construction.

With the huge amounts of sunlight in this room, the photograph makes the rear cabinets appear lighter than the island. They are indeed the same....the island is more true to the Silas color in these photographs.

Wish you were asking this question next year . . . our Shiloh cabinets should be installed in a couple of weeks. I will say that we've been happy with their distributors -- hope I can still say that after they're in!!!

we installed shiloh cabinets a few months ago and we're quite happy with them. the finishes (we have two types) are great and, imo, look like furniture-quality. they're rock-solid, built like tanks, and very heavy and sturdy. one of the nicest things about dealing with shiloh is that there are no upcharges for things like paint, glaze, and distressing. we had a few issues with our order (the fault of our cabinet guy) and shiloh turned around the replacement doors in less than two weeks. we had zero issues with the quality of the cabinets or finish. everything arrived in great shape. oh, and they turned the order around in four weeks if that matters to you. i think that, for what you pay, they're an excellent bargain. here's a couple pics:

Karalouise, The white perimeter cabinets will have Zodiaq Eclipse Blue countertops and the island will have Venezian granite in Polo, which is a white/gold/grey granite that has a brushed finish and a natural edge. I fell in love with the textured feel of it -- the fact that it's textured makes it very different and not something I'll see in everyone else's kitchen. I'm not fond of shiny, so that was appealing. It's a quiet pattern -- we're using granites with more movement in the bathrooms! At this point we're thinking the backsplash will be Oceanside Glasstile Geologie. We really like the little sample of Silver Peak but larger areas look more splotchy than my taste. So I think it will be Rocky Mountain instead. Pulls and knobs will be pewter. Sink: Silgranit Anthracite, but I'm not sure which one yet. Floor is grey ceramic tile. The whole look will be blues and greys with the white/pewter cabinets. There's quite a bit of natural light so I don't think it will come off as cavelike. I took a picture of my little sample of the island granite but no matter how I held it, the texture doesn't show up! The cabinet door is in the background. Arlene

Thank you for your response. The kitchen is beautiful and the color is exactly what I was hoping for. We finalized our cabinet order a few weeks ago and decided to go with the silas stain on maple with a graphite highlight. I hope it looks as nice as it does on Alder

Just wondering if you liked the way your cabinets turned out with maple. I have a sample of it at home and wondering if it will look okay in a master bathroom.

Any more pictures with this stain? I am considering it for my island and lower cabinets in my kitchen. Thinking of doing lighter color on the upper cabinets. I have a white quartz counter. Would love to see more pictures!

We have maple painted white for our perimeter cabinets and maple stained espresso with a black glaze for our two islands. We went with this because the other dark stains were showing red highlights in our light. While the color looks good in our kitchen, I don't like the glaze on the cabinets. Cleaning them is difficult. Even with a damp cloth, they show streaks in certain light. And the finish on the cabinets themselves was not done well. We have the same thing on our bathroom vanity and the finish on it was poorly done as well. As for the white, it is easy to clean, but the paint finish on some of the cabinets had bubble spots. Shiloh was good about replacing them.

Hi! I see this post has several new comments. We ended up going with the shiloh maple cabinets stained silas. We love them! Here's a picture after they were first installed. I'll follow up with some more pictures later for those who are interested.

Looks so pretty in the picture! I saw this stain on cherry and it looked like it had purplish tones. Do you see more grey or purple in the colors?

Yes!! I am staining maple cabinets in my new house throughout and I NEED more pictures of successful maple being stained. Please post more photos, love the look of your kitchen!

Are you a newbie to this? Staining maple on your own isn't easy and can tend to look blotchy. Cabinet manufacturers have all the state of the art equipment and finishes. Do your research on finishing maple.

Crystal, the rest of our cabinets are white. We only did the island in the gray stain. I agree with The Kitchen Place. Maple is a very tough wood to stain. Are you planning to do it yourself?

No no no. I’m building and the builder has subs for everything but ya know a sub painter may not know much about maple. Maybe they do. I’m taking samples to get stains from Sherwin Williams and I guess I will see how they come out.

Would love to see more photos. Considering Sials on maple with graphite in Metro style cabinets. Love the sample I took home and there's a lot of other wood in my house and seems easier not to try and match it.
