Can this home be improved how we'd like?
Comments (36)I agree with those who said the view makes up for a lot. We bought an ugly duckling lake house that needed (and still needs) a whole lot more updating than either of the homes you've linked to. Sometimes I get frustrated with the plastic showers, the fake marble vanity tops ... and the green tub ... but slowly but surely we are turning this into our forever home. And in the meantime, when I think I just can't stand the ugly parts a moment longer, I look out at that view and know we made the right choice....See MoreWhat can we do to improve this exterior?
Comments (19)You have a classic "upright-and-wing" house, a widespread home design of the mid 1800s. See https://images.app.goo.gl/uBUQcZaeCG23jYJL6 for description. I live in a similar one that has seen more unfortunate remuddling than yours has. The fake stone is unfortunate. It's nice that the door and surround is still there. Some landscaping would help....See MoreHow do we improve the exterior of this stucco house?
Comments (16)lots of diff ways to do it. notice the darker door here, the address plaque and the light. around the base they did the white stone work. or you could do a copper plaque. w/that terra cotta, the copper and black and wood tones would look amazing. Notice the wood doors. if you can't do wood, try and find some other door styles and try black. this is SW Iron Ore. would also work I have the spanish tile and this black/gold stacked stone around my door. I painted the door a dark BM Gray color. you can see the Wrought Iron trim color w/my stucco color I'd paint your fascia trim the Wrought Iron color. (I should have used it instead of the platinum, but I thought my roof tiles were going to be a lot darker) you can see how the warm wood tones in the gate and the garage door set off the colors here's the wrought iron color on my gutters. I think this color on your roof trim would look great: Landscaping will be the finish. remove those shrubs in the flower beds and try something diff...See MoreHow can we improve exterior of our house?
Comments (20)I'm fine with all of it—cute house. Love the roofline of the main house section. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the gabled section to the right. I don't think it matches the quality of the rest, perhaps because the window seems as though it's not the right proportion and the white siding on the gable seems like the "wrong" material. The whole front of that gabled section looks like it could use more "depth", but I'm not up to explaining how. Maybe a tad more roof protruding? If it were my $50k, I would focus on this gabled section. Start by doing something different with that window. @Beth has a photo using an arched window in that section. Something like that would enhance the Spanish-American feel. If you were stuck for $$$$ to enhance this gabled section (i.e. if you can't afford a bigger window, you could fill the space better by putting shutters on that window, as in some of the examples ^^^^. I like the green/blue color, but that's not to everyone's taste. The garage door doesn't match the rest of the quality IMO, but there are good suggestions ^^^ about how to address that....See MoreRelated Professionals
