‘Sunshine’ Ligustrum issues

I planted ‘Sunshine’ Ligustrum shrubs from Southern Living in June and they have tripled in size since then. They survived very hot summer better than any other shrubs in my backyard. They always looked healthy and beautiful.

However, they do not look as healthy now. Please see the pics below. It is like something happened a month ago. They lost some leaves and they do not look the same - withered, with some brownish color tones. I water them consistently based on soil moister levels. The weather in Bay Area has been nice so far.

Is it normal for ‘Sunshine’ Ligustrum shrubs to have that? Is it a winter thing? Is it a problem?
