Comments (19)I am afraid your above plan fails to meet your goal to have a smooth work flow and efficient layout...The coffee center is far from a water source, there is no storage near the clean up area for dishes, and the traffic pattern from sink to fridge, back to sink, to stove...just isn't as simple as it could be. The sink is handier to the broom closet than to the fridge and stove areas. I have worries, as others have expressed, about traffic being able to get around the table to the sun room, not only because of length, but also depth. You have it drawn without chairs, and remember they will take up room, if like in my house, not always be neatly arranged. I haven't addressed that in this plan, but did the following: Coffee is close to the prep sink Desk is nearby but not taking from valuable kitchen workspace There is a good and efficient relationship between fridge, prep area and stove. There is nice dish storage area There are a few work areas for when guests or the kids want to join in kitchen tasks. --No better way to discourage your kids from wanting to learn to cook and bake than there not being room for them to work. It gets tough for everyone to work together in good humor with all walking on top of each other, trying to reach the same sink and use the same work paths. I find that with a prep sink, I could've gotten only a single basin sink for the cleanup area. Maybe a way to save is to trade the large 3-basin sink for the 2 smaller sinks. I know that won't offset the charges for the plumbing, but I really think this will make a kitchen that's so much better to work in. Comments (11)Just some little things... The narrow pullout bases can be very pricey - check with the cabinet maker. Remember that with framed cabinets, the pullout itself will be at least 3" less wide than the cabinet. With frameless, it will be 1.25 to 1.5" less wide. So if you want to stretch dollar bills, simply do larger cabinets. As an example, the 9" cabinet by the range can be married to the 22" drawer cabinet and produce a 30" cabinet with a 1.5" filler. It sounds ridiculous, but that alone can save a couple of hundred dollars. Having a filler is important when both sides of a cabinet run are up against a wall. Walls are rarely completely level, or square and the filler "takes up" those small differences. You need to allow some air space on both sides and the back of the ref - generally, its an inch or two. Corner pantries right beside a ref are difficult (not impossible) to do correctly. Unless you are getting a fancy ref, the doors of the ref need to be in front of the side wall of the pantry. If they aren't in front, the doors won't open at all. Also, if you need to pull the doors open past 90 degrees to clean, you need to insure the entire door depth can fit in front of the pantry and its door trim. Another small issue with corner pantries and ref huts - The counter should die into the side panel. The counter will be roughly 1.5" deeper than the base cabinets. But the over the ref cabinet needs to be mounted flush with the front of the side panel (or so the cabinet doors are flush to the front of the side panel). I'm not saying "don't do it". I'm saying be very careful and thoughtful about it because its very easy to get wrong - even when done by professionals. As drawn, you wouldn't be able to open the ref door all the way and the ref door and the pantry door have high probabilities of running into each other. There is no possibility of having the side panel turn out in the correct place or be the correct depth for the counter. Personally, I would make the cabinets the same heights - either 42" or 48". Comments (9)I actually made my kitchen smaller because I did not like the larger aisles between the cooktop/island and the sink/ island. I have two islands in my kitchen and the second one is small and serves as a landing area between my sink, cooktop and fridge. It is not in the way for any of these items but is within a turn/step of each. Before I moved the east kitchen wall in 20", it was a turn/step/step between the sink/island and cooktop/island. I used a small cabinet that was the size I wanted for the island and lived with the setup for several months and finally moved the range and cabinets out from the wall 20" and after a month I knew I liked that distance so much better so the wall got moved. The dining room will have a nice alcove for the hutch and the extra room there is also nice to have. I may be one of the few people who has had the luxury (if you can call it that LOL!) of having a kitchen setup where I could rather easily rearange appliances (other than the sink) and see what I liked. We moved the kitchen to a new room and simply cut apart the old cabinets and set them up temporary until we could finish the kitchen (that was five years ago) and I've lived in four modified layouts before settling on the final one that gives my a kitchen that works great for the way I cook. My aisles are near 40" now so they must have been around 50" before. The small island will be movable so if it ever happens that I need more room in the kitchen (like having folks over to bake cookies or can veggies) I can move the whole thing out of the way. I would use this one because it gives you the most aisle space. i would flip what I assume is a 42" fridge (hard to read the measurements) with the cabinet so the fridge is closer to the sink area. This also takes away the problem of the width of the aisle. Less walking around the island and it will still look fine to have cabinets on the left of the fridge. It acts as a landing zone for fridge stuff, etc. While 48" for stools to pull out behind at the island may not be ideal, it is certainly doable. I made the island smaller so you have 48" between the island and the cooktop. That is the one place I feel you really want the space wide enough because of the safety issue. I like that you have 44" between the sink and island, and even 42" is fine. I also moved your sink down so it's not centered over the window but closer to the cooktop while still having a window view. Again this was done only so you're closer to the fridge but the prep space may be more important....See Moreprovidencesparrow
