Does anyone take pics of the burnt up foliage also?
Comments (2)It never occurred to me to take or post photos of burned up foliage. Most burn issues are a result of improper planting location or not having the correct information of the plants needs for survival. In the case of Fagus sylvatics 'rosema......... tri-color'. It needs filtered sun light. Planting this tree under the umbrella of a larger tree works very well. East side filtered shard works very well also. I saw Kens Fagus a few posts back in full sun...not good. He should know better. Beautiful tree by the way but I would surmise color was washed out by early to mid summer. 'Skylands' filtered screening for at least 2 years...minimum. When acclimated full sun is required. Simple as that. Acer palms...requirements are different for each cultivar. People buy these things by the 1000's and toast them every year. Dave...See MoreDoes anyone here do mock ups? Need help with entry door.
Comments (19)Thanks for your thoughts and comments! We are also downsizing from a traditional 4700 sq ft house (with formal living/dining) to 3600 sq ft with a great room design, so it is taking some getting used to, but we really wanted a house where we used every inch rather than having all these extra rooms we rarely used. Our old house was large, but didn't use the space the way I would use it--my laundry room was tiny (a closet really) and the bedrooms were large but the kids rooms had tiny closets. So, with this house, we made made sure the kids still had large rooms like they were used to and got larger closets and their own bathrooms to boot (my son doesn't really care, but my daughter is super excited to get her own bathroom and walk in closet :)). Once they move out, we'll have mini suites downstairs for guests. The kitchen/dining/living area is 41' long. Looks like we will be working with roughly the same area for those spaces. :) What is the total sq footage of your house? Of our 3600 sq ft, there is about 1930 for the main and about 1670 for the LL. Nice that you were able to fit 3 bedrooms downstairs and still have a nice sized rec room and play area. We will also have a wet bar down in our rec room. :) Great idea about adding water line in one of the storage rooms for laundry! We do plan to add stairs from the deck outside but just couldn't decide where to place them so figured we would wait to make that decision at the time the deck is being built so we could see what it looks like. I love that you will have an outdoor shower. Love those! We plan to put a hot tub on the deck right outside the master. Thought about putting it down on the LL patio, but my DH really wants it on the deck. Gotta give in to what he wants every once in a while ;-)....See MoreDoes UPS Work/Run Tomorrow?

Comments (7)Our clean up area isn't in a separate room but is outside of the cooking/prep area. The cooking/prep area is a "G" shape with 3 walls plus a peninsula. The small sink and dw are located on the other side of the peninsula. This works really well for us. The big sink is in the cooking zone and is perfect for us since I usually have several things going on in the sink during meal prep (filling large pots with water, draining colanders, peeling veggies, soaking utensils in sudsy water as I finish with them.) The smaller sink near the dw is used for drinking water, washing hands, scraping dishes before going into the dw, water supply for the baking area, and as another area for prep when others are in the kitchen. We pass cooking pots over the peninsula as they go in and out of the dw (I hand wash larger pots and pots with plastic handles in the main sink near the range.) I like the way our kitchen flows from range to table to dw. When there are a couple of people doing clean up, it's handy to have one person stationed at the main sink washing non-dw pots, wooden ware and plastic ware while the other person is clearing the table and loading the dw. Dirty dishes can accumulate on the counter near the dw completely out of the cooking/prep area. My preference is to have dish storage close to point of use rather than close to the dw. Dishes are in a cabinet between the cooking/prep area and table (with doors that open from either side.) I spent a lot of time imagining how things would flow in our kitchen and it works as I had hoped....See Moredeegw
