To garbage disposal or not garbage disposal
Comments (26)My husband and I were just discussing this the other day, if we had it to do over again, we wouldn't. I don't really cook the kind of meals that need a lot of "disposing" and my garbage is picked up twice a week. I don't think it is worth the sometimes smelly unpleasantness. It probably is more likely to smell if you hardly ever use it, as in our case. I only got it because I replaced the one that went on the fritz after 16 years. I should have just ditched it then and could have gotten a different kind of sink but that's a whole other story. I also don't like how much room it takes up under the sink....See MoreHot Topic-- Garbage Disposal
Comments (41)This is absolutely yucky, yucky, yucky!!! I noticed a nasty smell from our garbage disposal. I knew there were products to counteract this, so figured it must not be all that unusual. I bought a product at the store, but hadn't used it yet. I thought I would run a paper towel around the under side of the rubber gaskets and clean it some. I put my hand down in there and there was a wad of rotted "something" that hadn't gone through the disposal...and had just laid there and rolled around and rotted more each day....it was so nasty, I almost can't write about it. I'm setting here typing with my lip curled in disgust. I hardly ever use the disposal and wish we didn't have it. My husband uses it and never runs enough water through...he wasn't the one who had to clean it out...nasty, nasty..yuck...See MoreKitchen Remodel Starts Next Week - Need Help with Garbage Disposal
Comments (15)I had always been told that the batch feed disposals were a workaround for situations where there was no separate switch- you could get a batch feed unit and not have to break into your wall, backsplash or countertop to install a switch to operate the garbage disposal. I had a batch feeder for about 20 years, they are alright. My new disposal is the one you are thinking of getting rid of. I like it and prefer it over the old batch feeder. What I like best is that I have a single sink and its one drain has the garbage disposal. I have never understood why sinks with multiple drains had only one drain hooked up to the garbage disposal.... It does not seem so difficult to have one that could hook up to both drains but I have not seen one....See MoreDo these look like garbage disposal innards?
Comments (2)Thanks much, weedmeister. Weird. Wonder what they were. In any case, the disposal seems to have come to no harm. It sounds OK, so I'm going to resume using it....See MoreUser
