If it works, you could donate it to a H4H Re-Store, Goodwill or some other organization that sells used items. You get a tax write-off, the organization makes money when they sell it, and some happy homeowner gets a great deal on a garbage disposal. So it's really not wasteful at all.

Since you want a different kind, I would go ahead and get a new one. (I also prefer batch feed).

We sold ours with the sink on Craigslist. We also have the Insinkerator batch feed now.

We replaced a four year old vent hood with the remodel. We just bit the bullet and did it.

We went ahead and replaced. The prior was an Insinkerator Badger - around 7 years old. No problems but we figured they have some sort of lifespan. We gave to one of the workers. We now have two sinks. We put a large Insinkerator Evolution Excel for the prep sink and an Insinkerator Excel Compact at the clean up sink.

Will place my order. I figure it would almost cost as much as a new one to have it replaced when it dies.

I'm considering a batch feed disposal. So how exactly do they work? They are plugged in and you put waste into the disposal and then twist a cap in he sink - no switch? One article says they can handle less waste - have you had any issues with clogging?

FWIW - I don't like the batch feed. I had that until we switched to an airswitch in 2009. That said, I would take a batch feed over a switch under the sink or on the wall. Icky hands = more cleaning.

Yes, that's how it works. The "switch" is in the cap thingy. I have never had a garbage disposal of any kind clog.

My gc scratched his head and acted like a batch feed was new-fangled. I had one put in my last kitchen in 2007 after learning about them here. Don't know why they aren't more popular. I like that I don't have that rubber flange to clean and that my kids absolutely cannot accidentally stick their hands in the disposal while it is running.

I grew up with a batch feed disposal. And that was back in the late 60's. My current condo has a continuous feed but I think for my new build, I'm going to get batch feed disposals. I just feel they are safer.

How do the batch feed disposals compare price wise to the regular ones? cmw, a four year old disposal should give you quite a few more years, but I agree with the others; if you want the batch feed and you're doing the remodel anyway, why stick another hole in the granite when you'd replace the old one with a batch feed in a few years? Habitat ReStores and Goodwill are both very excellent charities and worth giving to. :-)

I'm wondering the same thing - we have our 3 or 4 year old Badger sitting on the floor. We could reuse it, or replace.

The cabinet install team won't reinstall old disposals; but our plumber (who is most likely doing the sink anyway) might.

I have no objections to my badger, but I gather from internet discussions that the insinkerators are better. Therefore, this is a good opportunity to upgrade.

Old GW threads suggest that sometimes when disposals sit waiting for reinstall, they develop problems. That sounds unpleasant.

My husband had a batch feed when he built a house in the 70's. (He IS older than I am :) ).

But I DO have a question - I called Insinkerator yesterday regarding the batch feed - called the Evolution Cover Control. It seems to be the only batch feed in their lineup. They told me that it has the rubber flanges. Does anybody know? I can't see one locally. I ordered it from Lowes - guess I can wait until it arrives and then check.

Historian, from what I hear, you should probably install a new one. Check the warranty period on the Badger. I have an Evolution Compact now and it only has a 4 year warranty.

I had always been told that the batch feed disposals were a workaround for situations where there was no separate switch- you could get a batch feed unit and not have to break into your wall, backsplash or countertop to install a switch to operate the garbage disposal. I had a batch feeder for about 20 years, they are alright. My new disposal is the one you are thinking of getting rid of. I like it and prefer it over the old batch feeder.

What I like best is that I have a single sink and its one drain has the garbage disposal. I have never understood why sinks with multiple drains had only one drain hooked up to the garbage disposal.... It does not seem so difficult to have one that could hook up to both drains but I have not seen one.

My Cover Control does have a rubber flange. I was surprised to read that crl's does not. It keeps stuff from flying out.
