Comments (7)I've got it all over. It is a type of vetch - not either of the crown vetches, as the flower is a vivid purple - but I can't now remember what, nor where I looked to find out. Try a local wildflower book, if you can't find it elsewhere, as it is a commonly growing plant. It's a royal pain, not least because it very easily breaks off from the roots when you pull at it, so the roots stay to resprout! It sends tendrils all over the place, and can, if really healthy, start to smother small plants. Because it IS sort of lacy, it won't do too much damage to larger plants, except entwine itself through them....See MoreNeed help identifying this vine (possibly invasive)
Comments (4)A subject near and dear to my heart. I must have pulled up a hundred yards of morning glory roots and sprayed a couple of gallons of Roundup, to no effect. Glyphosate will kill the foliage, but the concentrations of it in ordinary Roundup just seem to stimulate the root systems (individual underground runners, half again as thick as a pencil, can be well over 20 ft long.) The Roundup you buy by the gallon off the shelf at Home Depot contains 2% glyphosate. You can get a more concentrated form which contains 48% glyphosate. If you research this a bit, you will come across suggestions that you soak the root end of morning glory in this Satan water for an extended period. My battle plan (soon as I get around to it) is to cut and scrape a root end, tie a large cotton swab around it, drench it with the 48% solution, and seal it off with a piece of plastic and a rubber band. Oh, and it also springs up all over the place through seeding....See MoreNeed help identifying this vine-like grass
Comments (4)we are in eastern Mass, but not sure if considered "sandy" part! If you mean along the shore or down near the Cape, then no. About 25 miles southwest of Boston. It does seem bent-like, and I've almost always had tufts and patches of bentgrass (the bane of my existence in what is otherwise kbg, rye, fescue mix) and this seems way more aggressively vine-like. While the other bent patches are carpet-like, this one is more like a clump with 1 definitive vine. The clump in the picture is just one that is lonely in the mulch bed, but the lawn itself near this area is a whole big patch of this stuff. Thank you!...See Morefloral_uk z.8/9 SW UK
