How did you cope with moving the furniture?
Comments (2)Sliders are a good idea. They also sell moving straps that make large heavier pieces easy to carry with two people. Doing the install in sections is a good idea although it delays the process. If money is not an issue then hiring movers is common. Also the temp. Pods that get delivered to your home are practical for a secure storage spot. Granted both those options require money matbe more then you expected but options to keep in mind....See Morewhat did you splurge on? any regret
Comments (54)@raee -- yes, that's mine. Thanks for the kind words. Glad you like the color scheme. It's been 9 years now and I never tire of it. And with the four colors its easy if I ever want to change out the counters or repaint the cabinets since it could all look very different with, say, gray cabinets and walls and white counters. Also, I have variations on all those colors, plus green, throughout the house. I fell in love with the eurosplash idea which I first saw in someone's apartment kitchen. She is English and her walls were completely tiled. I didn't love her tile especially but I instantly connected with how the walls looked glossy and luxurious (also I knew I'd never need to repaint LOL). I'm odd this way but I start a kitchen by going to the tile store and seeing what I like. Tile choices are overwhelming and when I start with looking for something that calls to me vs something that's a compromise to "fit in," it seems easier. Once I pick the tile, I work in the reverse that most people here do -- I pick the paint, cabinet colors and then take all those with me to pick the counters....See MoreBathroom renovation design regrets?
Comments (61)Have the finishes match all the other finishes, (door knobs, faucets, etc) in your home. Consistency. A constant temperature valve with one, two or three diverter valves -- one for the shower hear, one for the rain head, one for the second shower hear if you have a second one -- is the way to go. Check if an instantaneous "instant" hot water heater for only the shower, or sink, or both is feasible. Any good tile guy will tell you this: Use real tile, not rock, not marble, not glazed stone, polished cement or whatever other variation of tile the national/regional chain tile stores stock. The national/regional chain tile stores are OK for getting ideas, but ask your tile guy his go to tile supplier, and go there and look. Chances are the place will not be glamorous or have luxurious displays, but there are reasons experienced tradesmen patronize the place, good quality raw materials, reasonable prices, varied selection, etc. The overall, final look is all about pulling together patterns, colors, lines, shapes and finishes in a bathroom. Light, natural or otherwise, fits into that list somewhere also. If you're good at this then ok, else consult a professional architect....See MoreWhen you were very young, did you say something awful you now regret?
Comments (20)This is humorous looking back, but mean none-the-less. When I was about five, the plastic trolls with the wild hair were making their first go-around as a popular toy. We had some, and my brother was about 3. I told him they had magical powers, and they were my friends, and if he didn't do what I said, we would make him disappear and never bring him back. I went on to say that there was a witch in the car, same deal. And then I even went on to start in with magical incantations a couple of time if he wasn't scared enough. First my parents were frustrated as to why my brother suddenly became terrified of the Chevy station wagon, and no amount of logic could convince him otherwise. Because you see, only I could communicate with the witch, not Mom and Dad. Then, one bedtime, when Mom was trying to figure out why he was so upset and scared, he spilled all the beans. She stormed into my room, and was pretty darn upset, rightfully so. I was so focused on getting what I wanted from my little brother, I didn't think about how I was scaring him and making his life miserable, not to mention lying and taking unfair advantage of someone younger than me. Once it dawned on me, even at five, I felt horrible, horrible. And every time I think about that story, I want to go back in time and smack myself upside the head!...See Morecaligirl5
