Does my Island Overhang need this much support??
Comments (12)I know fabricators sometimes use metal strips to brace overhangs. They are basically invisible and very strong. I think sometimes (maybe always?) they are inset into the granite. I would want to do that and then use some lighter, more graceful corbels on the corners. I believe the corbels would serve an aesthetic purpose more than a functional one. I agree that almost 4'' thick top is way too much....See MoreKitchen layout feedback
Comments (21)Yes, still put the DW on the left and the trash pullout on the right. "We frequently have 2 cooks in the kitchen" This will give you two Prep Zones - no fighting over sink or counter space! :-) ++++++++++++++ "...I also think if we put the dishwasher on the other side of the main sink, the edge will peek out beyond the line created by the island..." I would also not worry about the DW extending out past the island - in fact, I think I'd prefer that. Everything exactly lined up can be a bit like being too matchy-matchy. If you're concerned about the look of the front of the DW, get a paneled DW and it will look like another cabinet. BTW...if you look at your layout, the trash pullout is already sticking out past the island, so I'm not sure what you're concerned about since you seemed OK with it in your layout......See MoreHelp picking slab for this island
Comments (9)We love the butcher block and it would be a shame to waste it as it was custom and already cost us $1100. The only options I see are either ditching the block and using the whole slab for the island or keeping the butcher block and going with the Hanstone Aramis gray on the island as well, I am just worried it will be too dark....See MoreWalnut Butcher Block Kitchen Countertops with What Hardwood Flooring
Comments (8)In pictures, the walnut looks like a cool brown while the floor tends toward yellow or golden tones. But this is all on screens. You need samples! Since you already have several different materials going on, I would think a floor with less variation would be better. In general I like bamboo floors but this one has a lot of tonal range....See MoreKathy Ullmann
