Anyone use the monorail in Las Vegas?

My daughter and I are going to see George Strait in February. We are only staying 2 nights and most of the hotels are way more than I want to spend. We found one that wasn't too bad, but it's at the opposite end of the strip from the concert (T-Mobile Arena). Was wondering what riding the monorail was like? Over crowded? Slow? Fast? Or should we just use Lyft or Uber?

Did you check out the T Mobile Arena website? The how to get there on the menu let's you know if your chosen hotel works with whatever mode of transportation you choose. I don't know what your budget is but do read reviews on Trip Advisor before choosing. I glanced and was surprised at how many nicely rated places were under 100.00 a night or so. That's pretty good pricing with a concert in town. Around here in California you could expect to pay 300.00 upwards a night, depending on the season. in a dump near a concert or event weekend in some areas.

I’ve always enjoyed the monorail in Disney Land from the hotel to the park. It was comfortable & fast, 50mph.

RE: Lyft/Uber on the Vegas strip

“The prices are generally much cheaper than taking a taxi and can save you $10-15 dollars. You can also put your exact hotel to see the exact cost of a Lyft or Uber. As of today, if there are no surge/prime time pricing it costs $10-13 for Uber and $9-13 for Lyft from the Las Vegas Airport to the Strip.”

On this same general topic I'm testing a new find, Moltan Oil Absorbent #7133 from the local Autozone auto parts store. A 33# bag costs about $6.00. This is probably very similar to OilDri (fired clay particles). So far I have soaked it in water for a week and also frozen it for a week then thawed it out. So far the clay particles have not broken down at all. I have not boiled or microwaved it or grown anything in it so far. The particles are medium gray in color, with largest sizes roughly 1/4" in size, all the way down to fines. You would have to screen the material to remove the fines. The particles can be crushed with your fingers if you press *very* hard. When added to water you do hear a "hissing" sound similar to the sound Turface makes when added to water. Probably a very similar product. As a further test I have several small containers filled with 7133 sitting outdoors in the same conditions as my other container plants. I will leave the containers of 7133 outdoors all winter and see what happens in the spring. So far I like this product but time will tell. If it survives a winter outdoors without breaking down then I believe it should be OK for use with container plant mixes. Thanks John

I cannot answer what you have in your yard. If your home is fairly new construction chance are very likely it is a hybrid called 419 aka Tifway-I. But also understand the casino's have some of the best horticulturist money can buy. Ever been in Belagio Conservatory, Wynn, or Mirage and notice the beautiful gardens? If I am not mistaken I believe Bellagio has a huge nursery that grows most of the flowers plants, and tress for most of the Casino's in Vegas. Anyway I have never inquired what variety of Bermuda they have, but what I can tell you it is a semi-dwarf variety. If I had to guess I would say TifGreen or Sun Turf. With all that said, at this time of year you might be seeing Rye grass. They overseed with a Rye mix in mid October so it is green in Winter. The about late March, early april they will spray with a herbicide to kill off the Rye quickly as the Bermuda greens up. What I do know is the grass is not growing in soil. Like a high end golf green it is a soil less medium and in this case a very coarse sand. Anyway the grass is maintained everyday by some of the best pros in the biz.

To tyler and Kim.... Tyler, we did his old house in Palisades in Summerlin. Dh and I saw him about a year ago and he had moved, so we didn't do his new house. His old home had a fabulous pool with infinity edge and nice color pebble, DH took me to see it when he checked on the job, its close to our house. Kim, if you are slammed at work, probably better to use a builder. The subs I have pricing for charge us the same as the homeowner, so the general probably upcharges 10 - 20%. I think it is more convenience and someone to call if there is a problem using a pool contractor. On Desert Springs Pools, they also do volume, but I have a story I will share privately with you. Sadly no not familiar with the NASCAR test track in Vegas. But I do know someone who has driven on the BMW track in South Carolina and he had an absolute blast. It was also his b'day gift from his wife. I'm wondering if it is similar except from our friend's description, the BMW track is not a typical racing oval, but more like a cross country course. I am probably not using the correct terminology.

I have stayed at Treasure Island many times over the years, and If you want clean and comfortable at a good price, I would suggest it. That being said, The T Mobil Arena which is down by the Monte Carlo really isn't that far of a walk. The sights and the people watching are worth it. Also, if you just want to take a taxi down the strip for 3 people that may be worth it.

We like the monorail. It's plenty fast enough. Traffic was terrible, so it was faster than the traffic. We also rode the bus when going places. That was fine too.

Thanks for all your responses. I was looking for personal experiences. We were thinking of the Lucky Dragon. Actually Lauren is really wanting to stay there and she can get it pretty cheap on the website she uses. I'd rather stay closer to the arena.

Uber and Lyft in Vegas really saved us a lot of money while in Vegas last March. We also used the Monorail but it was more limited in where it actually went and dropped you off.
