What's the cost?

I wouldn't think Floridians would be interested in a device that puts humidity into the indoor air.

Of course we would. In the winter the air gets so dry your nose cakes up or you get nose bleeds. It also great for many reasons and ailments. It relaxes and has pain relieving properties. If you use eucalyptus oil it will be like a vaporizer for when you have a cold. It will also repel bugs with the right oils.

JoAnn, what is the name? I'm interested. Wonder if you can find them on Amazon.

The picture of this one here popped up on the first page on Amazon when I was searching for "essential oil diffuser" last week. Both my daughter and her boyfriend had a cold and she was putting Eucalyptus, mint and tea tree oil in a pot of boiling water. I thought a diffuser would make it easier.

I have posted links to the ones I bought. I had one similar to that one I lost in the flood so I replaced it with a really beautiful stained glass one that works better and is cheaper. It has several settings and times, it turns off automatically when the water is low. The lights have a lot of settings.

I have two (one in the kitchen and one next to my bed). I love them!! I got them on Amazon, as well as the essential oils I use in them. For the kitchen, I love cloves, cinnamon, or lemon; for the bedroom, I like lavender (or eucalyptus if my sinuses are bothering me).

Raven, yours is very pretty, but it doesn't hold much water. I got the 500 ml size and they will run for 10-12 hours. Mine cost about $30.

It holds quite a bit and will run for hours.

Yes, I was just going to say the same thing. I don't have specific links but this sums it up. That looks like a fun gift, even without oils.

Many essential oils are not safe to be used around children, pregnant women, pets and others with sensitivities despite the claims of particular, unregulated companies.

Essential oils can trigger asthma attacks, severe respiratory distress, racing heart rates, issues with kidney and liver function, chemical burns, and problems with blood thinning/clotting, just to name a few of the medical contraindications. There are also many that are known carcinogens.

If you decide to use Essential Oils in your home, please be sure to do your own research from resources that DO NOT sell EOs. We suggest contacting an aromatherapist, or a source that references Tisserand's research and other peer reviewed, empirically validated research.

Oh my, they are so pretty. I don't know which one I like better, the wood look or stained glass. Thanks for the suggestions, might be an idea for my sons girlfriend for Christmas.

Thanks for the pet reminder! I have 2 diffusers and LOVE them! I searched and found a list of good and bad... fortunately none of my favorites are on the bad list for pets. But I'm going to pass it onto my daughter for her pets as well.

Little story. One day a few years ago I was ironing sheets and decided to use lavender linen spray which I don't use linen spray. I did a huge stack of sheets when I noticed my baby (dog)acting strange. She was panting and she never pants. Than she started rolling from side to side and crying. We rushed her to the vet hospital near Pittsburgh...long story short she had a reaction to the lavender EO. Thats when the vet told me that many of the E oils are dangerous to pets. Lil was lucky as some of the scents won't just cause illness some are toxic. I'd check with your vet.

How many times has Elmer told us not to believe everything we read on the net. I found these words to be so true.

What I ment was...our pets are to important to us to believe without question what we read online.

My vet gave the opposite advice and recommended pure essential lavender oil to calm our dog while traveling and during thunder storms. That was an alternative to Prozac.

The Housmile brand raven posted a link to is the one we have and love it. It runs all night and doesn’t run dry, even on high. We don’t use the lights. We do use a few more drops of EO than called for sometimes and never had a problem. We play around with different scents, but prefer lavender. We do not allow our dog in the bedroom. But I burn candles on occasion and have never had a problem with the dogs we’ve owned.

One thing to note, this is NOT a replacement for a humidifier. So while it does put a little moisture in the air, it is nowhere near adding much to really make a huge difference. The whole unit holds maybe a cup or so of water, whereas our big humidifier holds a couple of gallons and will put out over half of that in one night.

In the article it does say to consult your vet. We never use ours on ourselves or our pets, just in the diffusers. So far, never seen a reaction of any kind. But if I do, that will be one of the things I'll have to remember to investigate.
