Problem with flies in indoor soil setup

Hi, I have a few florescent lights set up to grow dill and basil using soil from my compost pile. It seems sometimes the soil I use brings little flies with it. The soil otherwise appears to work well, so I don't want to give it up.

If I let the top layer of the soil dry out for a few days before using it for planting, will it be enough to kill any fly larvae?

Other ideas for being able to use this soil without a fly problem?
