Spice Rack Pull Out Hardware

Hello All, We have a design dilemma on the hardware we should use for our spice rack pull outs. The "legs" aren't attached yet so we haven't been able to use our nice spice racks. Please HELP! We are not sure if we should go with...

No hardware at all - We are a bit afraid of this because your hands would always have to be clean and dry in order to open them. Our white cabinets stain very easily and we are afraid they will just get dirty too easily this way.

Pulls - We have pulls throughout our kitchen so the obvious would be to put pulls on the spice racks as well. However, they just seem too big and bulky for our thin "legs".

Knobs - We are leaning towards knobs as they would be functional and not as bulky as the pulls. We don't have knobs anywhere else in the kitchen, which is not a big deal to me.

The last option I was thinking of today was a push to open latch. Titus makes a nice simple push latch, but I'm concerned we won't be able to mount it easily now that everything is installed. It is a tight space and not sure if we'd be able to mount something like this easily.

Take a look at the pics and please give your thoughts and/or suggestions. We'd love to hear what everyone thinks...

It is a Rev-A-Shelf system with soft close. I don't think the push to open latches will push it out far enough. If it's not pushed out far enough the soft close sucks the drawer back inward. I'm gonna try getting one and see, but I don't think it will work as it will need to push it out almost 2" :(

The pullouts on our vanities remind me of a spice rack. They're about 3" deep and are spaced far enough apart (farther apart than those pictured on the linked page) to hold tall bottles of hairspray, lotion, etc. Each shelf has a rail to hold everything in place. I think they're a great compliment to standard drawers. Pullouts are better for holding bottles (especially spray bottles) that could leak because they keep everything in an upright position. They make it easier to find things too because you can see everything at a glance without rumaging through a drawer. I added clear acrylic flatware/drawer organizers to my pullouts so I could use them for smaller items (e.g. make up, hair ties, nail clippers) too. I had a spice pull-out on my upper cabinets in my old kitchen, and it wasn't useful. The main problem was that a pull out that high was hard to see. It would have been much easier to see into a cabinet by either climbing on a cabinet or stool. The problem with a pull out at that height is that you can't see the top shelves very easily. This is hard for me to describe, but do a mock up of it and I think you'll get it. That said, I would not to let 4.5 in. go to waste in a small kitchen. You may get more use out of a regular door (rather than the rack.) That would still allow you to put spices inside or anything else. The benefit of a door rather than a pull out is that once you get to eye-level (by climbing on something!) you can see in quite easily. You could also shelves to create a vertical cabinet for a few trays. You'd be surprised at how much you can store in a small space.

Usually 6" spice pullouts have a "filler overlay" which is just flat slab with eased profile edges. You might be able to order a drawer front turned vertically. Or see if they can order a special piece in their custom appliance panel form. The slab design is standard. Check with your designer.

Do you need a tray cabinet or an oil and vinegar pullout in that location? I have each in 12” cabinets and I love them. But spices are much better in a drawer, labels facing up. I would do slightly smaller drawer, 30” max if I were you. Also, did you leave room for the electrical recepticals in your island? If not, you’ll probably have to allot a few inches to that. You could do a tab pull as well. Easy to install and fairly inconspicuous.
