Hello, Janice. Brown leaf spots that begin near the base of the plant and which spread upwards could be cercospora leaf spot. To address this, monitor these leaf spots to see if they increase, improve air flow around the plant if other plants are near it (you may have to transplant the others), dispose of any plant debris in the trash (not the compost pile), water the soil instead of the leaves, prevent the area near the plant from being wet or very humid, replace the existing mulch with new mulch, etc. If the spots are on a handful of leaves, consider cutting off the infected leaves. If these controls do not help and the spots continue to spread to more healthy leaves, then consider applying a fungicide. Once an outbreak of cercospora starts, it will re-occur every year so apply fungicides as soon as you notice them. Recommended fungicides: any whose list of active ingredients contains either mancozeb, myclobutanil, thiophanate-methyl or chlorothalonil. Examples: Daconil, Immunox, Cleary's 3336. As stated before, these fungicides will help control outbreaks but will not cure the plant. That is why you will continue having yearly outbreaks and why you need to re-apply the fungicides as soon as you notice the symptoms. I agree, it is the instability of hosta that causes this. I have a gold standard that consistently does this every year, purely random leaves and eyes but remains a gold standard (otherwise) year after year. However, I have a unstable halcyon split into two separate plants, that does this but they also threw two sports I divided off to see what they become (if anything). I watch for variations that deviate from the original plant, some call this sport shopping. Although the white streaks seem so common to me now I usually don't pay much mind to it... except in the case of this halcyon it was quite prominent throughout a mature plant, so it was easy to take a chance on it since it was about to become road kill to make way for a driveway.

More often than I should! Luckly most things still taste good. I made six dishes on Friday, one item, herb bread ended up rising three times within 16 hours, stored in the fridge after the first rise and baked in a bunt pan like a huge hat! Looked so funny to serve it that way. Anyway the jalepeno jelly went so well with it, everyone went back for seconds! There is no way I could duplicate that bread ever again. lol I changed or added to every receipe according to my taste. Since I don't like to cook , I try to make it interesting. Once in a while I really make a big goof and have to throw it all away!

It is in the original plastic pot and then that is sitting inside of another pot. I water it when needed. I know I said that it is fertilized weekly, but that should have been when I water it which averages every 8-10 days. I am always careful not to get water on the leaves and I use lukewarm tap water. Also, the fertilizer is at 1/4 strength.
