staining oak kichen cabinets or should we paint them?
Comments (6)It depends on where you live and how much needs to be done - how large the kitchen is. My mother had just those cabinets done that had water damage. The refinisher did a great job and I can't tell the refinished from the original - so she did not change the cabinet tone. The refinisher did a total strip and refinish of he affected doors. He did not charge much - but we live in the midwest where sometimes prices are less. I did my own which did not cost much in supplies, but was labor intensive. Of course I also do not have the supplies on hand and things like a spray room that a refinisher or professional cabinet painter would have. I would go to a reputable paint store (not home center store) and ask for some names of good professional refinishers / cabinet painters and get some estimates....See MoreHelp BM Simply White walls, trim and cabinets??
Comments (1)First I would do the ceiling the same color as the walls I like matte for walls and ceilings and then a satin for trim as for the cabinets they will need to be done by an actual cabinet refinisher with conversion varnish so you can go the same color but they will look a bit different every time you change the sheen the color catches the light differently so keep that in mind. I am not sure why the cabinets need painting , I actually love the way the paint is now in the house....See MoreShould we paint kitchen cabinets or not?
Comments (16)Cabinets: No to painting the cabinets! They are in great shape and don't look old fashioned. As long as you clean/declutter the rest of the house, it'll sell. Buyers can then paint if that bothers then and you could leave that option as a bargaining chip for later. Backsplash: I'm a little bothered by the backsplash under the microwave, but other than that, everything is okay. Your stove is great too without the back raised which I see often as objectionable. If I were putting a minimum effort into it, I would see if I can find those exact tiles in plain beige and just re-do that part under the microwave. Decluttering: remove EVERYTHING on the counters, window sills and the window. Not one appliance or towel should remain. Box it up and put it in your pantry. Make sure you remove all the junk in the upper cabinets that have glass doors. Get everything look clean/empty. Serious, no towels, no paper towels, nothing out. I would also take away the baby chair and make the table pretty with a table runner or placemats in plain off white and some simple cutlery and plain plates. You want to dilute all the brown. The kitchen table is a little dark without anything on it. Lighting: love the track. All the naysayers don't realize how great of a lighting it has. I would remove the ceiling fan though and install a recessed light, but the fan definitely has to go, you have too much going on up on the ceiling and the dark cabinetry is already a lot for the eye....See MoreShould we paint the cabinets white?
Comments (6)I would be keen to wait and see how that island functions as opposed to a big square island w actual seating options ..maybe even two stools. its a nice kitchen..how that island shape came to be is the question..and what, if anything you would care to change about it. There are a couple things on the perimeter like ?venting above stove? corner sink desirability? but these are issues not related to the tone of the cabinets...so wait some months, on all points/ superficial [looks] and other....See MoreJefferson
