Need HELP with porch ceiling color Please!! Pics!
Comments (23)Antique.. I wouldn't consider a dark color, as I'm already worried about the porches making it darker inside. Hate to hear you had to learn this thru experience....ugh...painting ceilings is so hard!! Hartwood, I never thought about it coordinating with the inside color scheme.... but very good thought since I have transoms above all windows & doors. I love GW and am so thankful to have "cyber friends" to get ideas and advice from!!! I'm in north central AR and we've had a snow storm, so that essentially shuts everything down. Us southerners aren't used to it!! Hope everyone has a great weekend!...See MoreCan spiders get into recessed ceiling lights?

Comments (33)I lived in an apartment that had 14 foot ceilings and between the high ceilings and the orientation of the windows (directly behind the seating area), the size of the windows (jibs that opened all the way to the floor) and the presence of a boardwalk style walkway right outside these windows, --we both felt kind of vulnerable sitting there watching TV. I would have felt much better had they maintained the other entry door to the apartment because the room would have been oriented in a way to better "protect" the occupants. (I lived in the back parlor of an 1840ish house that had stepped out onto a piazza, and the back had been dug out, thus the boardwalk) Conversely, the lofted portion of this room which had a 6'7" ceiling was oppressive to sit in because the ceiling with it's heavy mouldings seemed to press down on one's head. We were much more comfortable in the apartment we owned on a higher floor that had ten foot ceilings with an entry door down a 20 foot hallway. A large amount of space was dedicated to this hallway, but it really made the difference having this Inside the apartment rather than Outside the apartment as a public hallway even though we would have been the only ones using it regularly. That apartment really felt like a house in comparison. The similar things that I don't care for in McMansion type design are the undifferentiated space, furniture floating in positions that don't feel protected, rooms that are only irregularly contained by walls, and have amorphous boundaries. I personally find rooms that I can't define by a known shape unsettling....See MoreWafer vs can ceiling lights
Comments (11)Michelle misses Sophie, air leakage from a can light into unconditioned space can be mitigated. My attic is directly under my living space, and my house came with about five recessed can lights from the 70s. I had the Energy Star program in to seal and insulate my house, and as a part of the program, they put these big styrofoam buckets over each recessed light. That way, air movement is stopped from moving from living to unconditioned space. In my state (MA), any contractor that comes after the Energy Star program is required to insulate their work to Energy Star's standards. I'm not at all worried about putting can lights into my upcoming kitchen reno....See Moreamylou321
