fresh turmeric, bitter melon, banana flowers
Comments (6)Haha...good idea for the diversion tactic in the garden. We do like bitter. Last night i sliced one lengthwise, removed the seedy center and sliced into half moons. Caramelized an onion and tossed them in...just had to taste it. Good,(ish) Thanks for the thai link! I recently made fantastic tiny meatballs, made way too many as i tend to do...froze the rest to drop into soups. I always have MisoMaster on hand as it lasts forever and is such a good quick soup base with scallions, ginger, cilantro, lime and celo noodles. I usually drop in a few shrimp or a small salmon steak...stuffed bitter melon would be another option. The turmeric, hmm, one is sitting on my chop board. Making a german potato salad and a beet cole slaw for the weekend bbq. Maybe i'll just slice it into thin rounds and 'neon' all my sides. I only grow zucchini for its flowers so i have no fear of eating banana flowers...right now it is a good lookin' garnish. Need to do some more research on that one....See MoreBanana sandwich
Comments (24)That is an interesting combination Glenda. I like a toasted banana sandwich with just butter and every now and then with Nutella. We used to have a white bread here called Scone bread and that was always the bread I wanted for a banana sandwich that wasn't toasted. Butter the bread, slice the bananas and use the palm of your hand to lightly squish together the 2 pieces of bread LOL that was the best banana sandwich. I also do not like ripe bananas, love them with a green tinge. Even my dog who loves bananas won't eat them when they are ripe. Ripe bananas go into the freezer for banana bread....See MoreBananas - need ideas for lots!
Comments (19)I'll vouch for that sour cream banana bread recipe too. It came from Connie over at Mimi's Cyber-kitchen over 10 yrs. ago and it's the only one I've used since. Something simple for summer: BANANA CREAM SUPREME 16 graham cracker squares (1-1/4 cup crumbs) 1/4 cup margarine, melted 3 Tblsp. sugar 1 cup sour cream 1/2 cup milk 1 small box instant vanilla pudding 12 oz. Cool Whip, thawed 3 bananas, sliced 2 Tblsp. chopped pecans Make crumbs out of the graham crackers; mix with margarine and sugar. Press into 9-inch springform pan. In a bowl whisk sour cream and milk. Mix in pudding until dissolved. Fold in Cool Whip. Spread half of the pudding mixture in the pan. Layer sliced bananas on top of that. Pour rest of pudding mixture over bananas. Sprinkle pecans over the top. Chill a while before serving. It sets up fairly quickly. Recipe from Pampered Chef....See MoreWhat's for Dinner #352
Comments (100)Neely, the pavlova still looks fine to me, and those strawberries are lovely. Anglophilia, the pork sounds delicious. My husband says I'm boring, every morning I have one egg, over easy, some type of toast and a cup of coffee in my favorite little Jadite mug. It's the perfect size, I can actually drink it all before the coffee gets cold! Anyway, a dear friend gifted me with some Portuguese muffins, so I've been having half of one of those with breakfast. They are more dense than regular English Muffins and a little sweet, with raisins, very yummy: I've been hungry for beef barley soup, so I made some of that today: Yesterday I made a big salad with some of the turkey. I'm not crazy for salads, but Elery loves them, so occasionally I cave in and we have salad for supper. He had some homemade maple oatmeal bread with his, the salad alone was enough for me: We've been busy making other things too, like a batch of Habanero Gold jelly for Christmas savory cheesecake: A big batch of venison and cheddar sausage: Elery was packaging the sausage while I made cookies for the freezer. These were those flourless peanut butter cookies, all scooped out and the frozen lumps will be placed in a freezer bag until I want them, then they'll be thawed and baked: Somehow these four didn't make it onto the sheet pan and had to be baked. "Oh, darn", was Elery's reaction, LOL. Tomorrow Madi and Maci will be here while Ashley goes hunting, last day of deer season here for rifle hunters. I'm thinking pizza.....
