warsaw buff pie pumpkin seeds
Comments (11)Macmex, so this variety is C. moschata? Could I have a try at recovering it from your old seed? I've had good results getting old seed to germinate, I built a lighted, thermostatically-controlled germination chamber for that purpose. The Tromboncino I'm growing this year is from 11 year old seed (and should be a successful seed crop). Any plants which result would be hand pollinated, and seed returned to you. It wouldn't be grown until next year though, I'd keep the seeds in the fridge until then. My SSE listed email is still valid. Worst case scenario, you could probably recover Warsaw Buff from the crossed SSE seed, via hand pollination... although it would probably take 2-3 generations to be certain of its purity....See MorePie Pumpkin - Regular Pumpkin What is the difference?
Comments (12)Something I LOVE, but rarely buy due to it usually being sold in huge sizes for single me, is something called a hubbard squash. It is sort of football shaped, but rounder. Has deep furrows. Sort of looks like a huge acorn squash, but the colors of the rind are a little bit different. Sort of a bluish green, and perhaps I have seen orange ones. Anyway, the flesh is very orange. I have heard a rumor that it is hubbard squash that is used in canned "pumpkin." It is real tasty, but I can't eat it up fast enough to warrant buying it. I have made pumpkin pie from a fairly large, ubiquitous pumpkin. Not sure if it was a prime pie variety but I doubt it, a friend bought it. It was OK, pie tasted good, but yes, a stringier texture than what we are probably used to....See MorePie off between Baby Blue Hubbard and Winter Luxury Pie Pumpkin
Comments (3)Winter Luxury is a best old hoard for sure in North America, but I never had the chance to test it here in sad old Europe. Iôve seen pictures, where a whole fruit was baked and seed removed afterwards. A few days after your Birthday I would like to give you seed of our best old pie pumpkin here in central Europe. It is the Bleu de Hongrie. I like the Blue Hubbards too, but the blue one from Hungary is unbeatable. Ok, on this picture color is more grey then blue, but a woman from Hungary said, that this is just right, and my quality was the best...as she remembers from her childhood, where they had no sweets but only sweet baked pumpkin for their large family. Hungarians liked it in the period of communism, when this 14" wide pumpkin looked like a oversized yeast dumpling. Comments (14)I have a recipe for yeast rolls that use pumpkin or squash puree, along with whole wheat flour, the kids love them. I've had pumpkin ravioli in a sage and browned butter sauce, it was really good. If you don't want to make your own pasta you can use wonton wrappers. I've added pumpkin to hummus and it was pretty good too. I've stirred pureed pumpkin or squash into chili and lentil soup, but if your chili packs a punch at all, you won't taste it in there. Good luck, I'm trying to find some way to use up 72 butternut squash, LOL. Good think I like squash and I can use it to make a fake "pumpkin" pie, Mother loves that. Annie...See Moreannie1992
