We just bought a Kitchenaid KFCS22EVMS refrigerator and paid nearly $3000 for it. The KitchenAid customer support group is of no help, and I am publishing this for 2 reasons.... 1) So potential buyers of this refrigerator are aware of its shortcomings, and 2) To see if anyone knows what the real problem is and how it might get fixed. The problem... It is making a weird clicking/knocking sound, that can be quite loud. It otherwise appears to be functioning normally. I recorded the sound and you can hear it at the link I have attached here. It lasts a bit longer (maybe a total of 30 seconds), but I wasn't able to capture the sound right from the start. Also, it is pretty loud and distracting. It occurs fairly randomly, and does not appear at all connected to the compressor turning on or ice being made. It is fairly frequent, occuring at least 10-20 times a day (and night). Kitchenaid and the store I bought it from at first said it's normal (although neither has come out to hear it, and don't care if I send them a recording of it), and explained it's probably the pump that is used to recirculate the water used for the icemaker and water dispenser so it doesn't freeze. I have had other refrigerators and never heard this type of sound before. They had me shut off the water to the unit and attempt to drain it and shut off the icemaker to see if that fixes it. So far it has not (although I don't think it is totally drained of water). Do you have any ideas as to what this might be??? Any help is appreciated -- just add a comment below. When I told the KitchenAid rep that I never heard this in the store, she explained it's because they don't have the units connected to water. I've had the Electrolux model you described for a little over two years. We've been very happy with it, except for the design of the freezer compartment. Occasionally ice from the ice maker in the bottom freezer falls behind the freezer drawer and it's a pain to get it out. The freezer drawer and it's components seem to be engineered poorly and hard to put back together when we have to remove a part to retrieve the wayward ice. The refrigerator section, however, has been excellent.

I ended up with the Bosch. To a great extent it came down to the look. (I know, many would belittle that reasoning.) I have an appliance wall that has the fridge, 15" landing space, a Bosch Induction range, 15" landing space and a Wolf Steam Oven. The handles on Kitchenaid looked like the lat-pull down bar at my gym, ugly in my opinion, and I didn't love the look of so much variation from appliance to appliance to appliance. (I also have a Bosch dishwasher which I love; it actually has a pocket type pull, no handle. Getting the three Bosch appliances maximized my rebate, which was a bonus but didn't really affect the decision.) The refrigerator is okay. I don't like it as much as my old Amana (which I think at the time was the same as the Jenn-Air french door fridge). Because I have a chest freezer I don't really need the second drawer for longer term storage; given the choice I'd prefer a single drawer. I'm also getting used to the loss of storage with the counter depth. To compensate a have a beverage cooler for the beer, wind and tonic which took up at least one shelf in the Amana. It's a trade-off. I'd probably do the same thing again, at least as long as the handles are the same. (You can't fully "appreciate" them unless you see them in person.)

I am getting rid of a GE Cafe counter depth fridge in this size. I love the way it looks, but make sure that whatever you get has TWO cooling controls. Mine is going on 8 years old and it only has one cooling control, which means the cold air from the freezer is pumped into the fridge and any veggies will freeze if they are too close to the back of the fridge. The only safe place for a salad is in the door. I've turned the temp up in the fridge to 39F and still ... frozen celery, carrots, etc. The GE stainless steel is easy to clean and it stays clean looking. I'd go with the Bosch if it were me, love the look of those in the showrooms but I don't love their standard depth options (you have to get ice/water in the door, which I do not want). So, if the GE now has two separate cooling zones then I would get GE again. Aside from destroying produce I do love it, it's super pretty and the ice maker was a strong performer.
