Shower Fixture Color Dilemma
Comments (1)Design works in cycles and for a long time brass was out, but recently it's starting to gain popularity again so holding on to those expensive faucets could be putting you ahead of the game. In regards to the finishes they are more similar than they are different and I wouldn't hesitate to mix them. From what I can tell it's like mixing Polished Silver with Chrome. One may have a little warmer tone to it, but to the unsuspecting eye, it's really hard to tell the difference....See MoreKnobs Only, Pulls Only or Mixed. Dilemma!
Comments (15)I originally was going with all knobs because I saw Sarah Richardson comment once that it's much easier to change out knobs than pulls when you're looking to update your kitchen. Then, I went to the store and picked knobs to check out. I didn't like them at all with my cabinets for some reason. So, back to the drawing board. I ended up going with all the same size pulls, all placed in the middle of the door or drawer, all horizontal....just for consistency. None of my drawers are so large compared with the smallest drawer that having the same sizes made a difference, if that makes sense. I did use glass knobs on the glass front doors, but that was it. Anyway, my advice is to go to a big box store, buy a bunch of difference sizes, styles and finishes, and put them up to see what speaks to you. It may not be what you originally thought you want it to be. Even after I decided against all knobs, I thought I'd use a bunch of different ones and didn't go that route, either. Here's a shot of mine in my not-yet-finished kitchen....See MoreColor Clash Dilemma! Living Room Color Needed? See Pictures!
Comments (25)I’m sorry about your daughter. It sounds like you don’t have a choice. My house was built in 3 stages- 1803, 1817, and 1836. My floors vary by the build date and, heartbreaking for us, a rescue of the oldest part done by the second family to own it in 1927. Personally I would keep the color of the floors downstairs in a sympathetic replacement of your current floor. For true house historians, the first thing they all notice is the discrepancy of the 1927 oak floors in a house of walnut and cherry. I am forever grateful they saved the house, but I wish they had matched the floors to the original. If you can’t use the old flooring for another project right now, store it and wait for the right inspiration. We have found old wood in the little carriage house and in our attic. It awaits future projects. I am excited about your rescue of this home. Keep a notebook with pictures and document why you did or didn’t do something a certain way. We were given such a book....See MoreKitchen Knob Dilemma
Comments (3)decide what you will be doing with the surface of the door first. They could be stripped and tung oil for a natural look??? Or cleaned up/primed and painted in which case holes can be filled. Backplates can help with covering over and avoid the painting project. Just depends. And the hardware is fine . to change to knobs seems something I'd pass on if it's just a whim....See Morebrigantina18
