Here we go again...(picture heavey)
Comments (14)Chad, I've been researching Agave desmetiana and Agave attentuatas and have successfully confused myself. The Kara stripes attenuata doesnt have the terminal spines like the one I call attentuata. Here are more picks and you'll see how they are different. The A.Buhri barely has teeth it feels smooth on the edges. It resembled a striata when it was small and has been changing as it grows. Someone gave me the ID, but like I said the Aloe looked different. Any ideas? Denise Heres a better picture of the Agave in question. I have it tagged A. attentuata. Heres my Agave desmettiana variegated. And heres my Agave desmettiana plain form. Thanks for helping me get accurate. Your thoughts? Denise...See MoreI dug up my Agave - whew!
Comments (7)Neil - it was a busy day. It took me all day because I kept having to go inside to cool off! But then again, I wasn't in a hurry. And if I don't find homes for my plants, we do have a big plant fair in March. I know, it's a long time off, but it is a great venue for trading - much to the chagrin of those who are trying to sell their plants. When I sell my plants, it is usually for a dollar or two, just to cover the cost of growing media. Sharing is more important to me. Kim, everything I read says this plant is frost tender and grows in zones 9-11. If you can keep it in a pot and bring it in for the winter, I think it will do fine. These guys were quite manageable before going into the ground. Can you folks message me? I have tried to set my profile so anyone can message or email me. If that doesn't work - and please give it a try just so I can see if it works - you can email me at crenda at AOL dot com. (Can I type my actual email address?)...See MoreShow Me Your Agave
Comments (44)Hoovb, perhaps it's the scale of that plant that is variegated was left with much desire on the market.. The seller claim it's a 20" plant, that's about 1 foot. I never saw or understood the value in vairegated Agaves anyway. But I really do love those with almost completely albino leaves markings.. Jeff, I love the first plant, and your friend's mother painting. Very pretty.....See MoreAgave bloom spikes
Comments (11)Here is a photo of an agave bloom spike, taken from my front porch, of my neighbor's (across the street) agave:I have not seen the whole plant, but this is the second time I've seen a spike in five years, and so they must be keeping some of the pups. When my agave bloomed, I removed all the pups, as I felt I no longer had room for it, as I have a much larger one in the yard that is supposed to bloom in the next 20 to 30 years. The one I have left is a Furcraea, which is related to the agave. I may not be around to see it bloom, but when it does, it could reach 55 feet in height. If you grow them from a small plant, you have to plan for the size they will grow into....See MoreCrenda 10A SW FL
