Thank you for all the the ideas! The kitchen is long and narrow. There is only the single fan/light in the ceiling right now. I would not miss the fan too much since we have a vent system in the microwave now. I was sort of thinking of a pendant, or if my husband can't give up the fan, then maybe a silver and black newer fan? I've never seen the track lighting you speak of, it sounds really neat. Would you have a picture? The kids really do love the chalk board wall. They use it while I am making dinner and it is great for practicing letters and numbers with the family.

Have an electrician take down the old light and take a look at the connection. You might need a stronger box, or not. That is a simple fix. Our small LR fan came with the DW but we did have a larger fan/lights installed last year. I think he may have replaced the box. As an aside, Don't put a fan anywhere near the kitchen stove if it is gas. Could blow the flame out, even on low fan setting. I couldn't use my fan in our last house when I needed it most - hot humid days :-(.

Sorry, this seems rather confused. What is a "blue green combo"? "It had a white wire a green wire and a ground" also can't be right; the green wire IS the ground. Green is always ground. White is always neutral (except as below). Other colors, including blue, are hot. Ground and neutral are never connected together except at the main disconnect. Hot and neutral are never connected together. Hot and ground are never connected together. The only times when white can be hot, and may be connected to black, are when wiring a switchloop, or when using cable assemblies for wiring 240 volt circuits. In these cases the white conductor should be re-marked as black, red, or other non-green, non-white color, to avoid confusion. I don't think either of these applies here. If you actually have red connected to green, you've connected hot to ground. You may be in danger of electrocuting someone - such as yourself. However, it's hard to tell whether you really have it set up that way, because I'm having a lot of trouble reading what you wrote. You use almost no punctuation and capitalization. Is that really necessary? You aren't typing on a cell phone here. Maybe I'm just a cranky old so and so, but if you can't take time to write properly and clearly, I don't see how you can expect anyone to take time to respond.

Same for a 4 ft. by 2 ft. window. $2.5k -Hang a new hall light and replace two ceiling fans. $750 bones -Paint trim in house (2000 sq. feet). $2.5k -Kithen: Remove cabs and counter. Install new appliances including a cooktop and hood and a built-in oven/micro. (new wiring needed).Replace two lights.Install ikea cabs. and island $12k -Frame in laundry room with pocket door and remove wall in kitchen (about 7 ft. long). Remove closet in kitchen to install ikea pantries. Paint kitchen. $5k -haul two loads of trash away. $350 bones -install new electric outlets and lights in whole house. $2.5k -install 5 new doors and 9 new door knobs. $3k -Hang 4 blinds. 300 bones Total bill should be under $50k you do have that much budgeted right?
