Builder's Standard Appliances; Need suggestions
Comments (3)Please clarify why your appliance package includes a GE over-the-range microwave (per the model number you've listed) AND a hood. I'll reiterate what's already been said, get a good exhaust hood. Buy a countertop microwave (not an OTR MW) for $125-150. You can put the microwave on a shelf in your cabinetry to take it off the counter. Panasonics and Sharp MW's are good, with the Panasonic being a better looking machine. The GE model hood you've listed is only 410 cfm. That is not nearly powerful enough, especially with the Bluestar and Charbroiler. I think you'll need at least 900 cfms. Since it sounds like you are building from scratch, please make sure the duct for your kitchen exhaust is 8" or 10" in diameter, not smaller. If it is smaller, you will have more noise, less efficiency, and there are fewer hoods on the market designed to work with, e.g., a 6" duct. Don't let your builder insist that 6" diameter duct is fine. Especially with the Bluestar you want, you will need a powerful hood, and so you need to make sure your builder is installing an 8" or 10" diameter duct for the hood. The washer and dryer you've listed are top loaders. Now that I have a front loader washer, I would NEVER go back to a top loader. You could look at the Whirlpool or Kenmore front loaders (the Kenmores are made by Whirlpool), or the LG brand front load washers/dryers are quite good....See MoreWhat is the average Builder/Contractor's price for appliances
Comments (6)We bought the GE Cafe line. We got the fridge, dishwasher, all gas range (duel fuel was only $100 more though), and microhood for $6k. It would have been more if we went with an in the wall oven. But still, I think $7k is pretty reasonable for appliances. Provided you don't want all pro appliances, that is. We picked out the models we wanted and then price shopped at 5 small appliance dealers in the area (made sure we got their "package" price). Everyone was within a few hundred dollars of each other. So we took the lowest price back to our first choice dealer (closest) and asked them to beat it. And they did. It's a lot like buying a car, I guess. :)...See MoreKitchen appliances from a builder
Comments (26)I realize Wolf/SZ are excellent brands with a long tradition of quality and performance. Wolf's problems with their ovens- the dreaded blue enamel chipping- is a deal breaker on the ovens for me. Then you have Wolf's gas range tops and cooktops, they are most probably superior to Miele's, but I want induction, so that brings me back to Miele or Gagg. I have a combination of Miele and Gagg at my primary residence and I am very pleased with their performance. I realize I am being very fussy and these are luxurious problems to have, but this house is not inexpensive and it seems a bit silly to me to not have the appliances, which represent a tiny fraction of the cost of the house, that I prefer. Plus, I plan on keeping this house for a very long time....See MoreReplace brand new builder appliances in new house?
Comments (4)Make sure the electrical outlet is rated for an induction stove. New wire, breaker and outlet could be expensive. You should be able to sell the appliances for maybe 60% of their sale price....See Morem111675
