rooting brugmansia cuttings in water

I used to root my brug cuttings frequently with success. However, the last few times, my success ratio went down with some rotting occurring (which was OK cuz who needs seven brugs on a 10x10 deck now that I've downsized my garden!). I've wintered over the entire pot the past 2 years but now it's time to let it go and go back to cuttings.

Your best advice to avoid rotting? I just took 5 good woody cuttings and was about to put them in water. I used spring water from the fridge and added a couple of drops of hydrogen peroxide the same as i do with cut flowers. I put in the the cuttings and then I realized the water is too cold and took them out. I bet it is advisable to let it come to room temp first.

Then I wondered if it is ok for the cuttings to sit on the counter and dry up. Then I wondered if it is preferable for the cuttings to sit on the counter and dry up.

Then I wondered how much water to use. And how many sticks per container. I use glass vases like for cut flowers.

Then I wondered if I am over thinking this.

I wish I could remember exactly how I used to do this when I got 100% success.

Tips please.
