Too early for die back?

I’m still a Gardening newbie (only my second year) so I don’t know how these things work. 3 of the roses I bought this year have canes that are turning dark brown where I had made some trims about a month ago. I’m not sure if this is just something that routinely happens once the weather gets cooler (temps have bounced around but averaged 50s in a Massachusetts-6b) or if I should be worried.

Lavender Crush at a weird angle, but the brown part is about 6-7 inches long. This poor thing also has some sort of insect damage or something on the leaves and nothing, chemical nor home remedy, seems to help. It did grow a beautiful brand new basal cane a few weeks after I bought it though and the cane is now over 5 feet tall!
