Comments (3)My wife worked as a Home Depot paint department supervisor and said the Glidden Gripper was the primer they recommended most of the time mainly because no one seemed to come back and complain about it. She said personally she would go to a dedicated paint store, not a box store. Prep is important especially when painting over wood previously stained and top coated as you have experienced first hand. It's going to be tough to find any coating that can withstand the wrath a vacuum cleaner, but you can be successful with the right products. I perhaps take an overkill approach but I would sand, vacuum and tack cloth everything, clean with TSP and mineral spirits, then use a liquid sandpaper, then prime with the best primer you can find and finally paint with the best wall and trim coating you can afford using the best recommended brush you can find. It's a lot of work and maybe a step or two more than needed. The TSP and liquid sandpaper are maybe overkill but that's what I would do....See MorePainting trim, leaving wood doors?
Comments (10)Well, your realtor knows your area better than I do. I can only speak for myself as someone who's appreciating the warm trim on my screen. Maybe it's awfully yellow in person and makes wall colours difficult to choose. On my screen, the doors and trim look quite nice and I wouldn't be in a rush to paint them. Taste is so subjective. For example, I prefer the wallpaper to the wall tiles. You can only guess so far as to what potential buyers will want. If your realtor has shown you comps with the same wood trim that stagnated on the market, then fine, paint it. Otherwise, I'd save my energy for cleaning and staging....See MoreDark trim vs. White. Comments (20)* Also when looking at the hallway ^... that photo of the "door" to the right is actually an elevator door...(Its faux painted...done before we moved here.) That is also the dilemma... if husband paints trim white... there is that door and I do NOT want to paint it white. so can the trim around the door be painted?...See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
