Good advice!

Start by painting the trim white. If you're pleased with that look you can stop, if not, you can proceed to paint the doors white. One step at a time.

I agree with the others, paint the trim white, leave the doors, at least for now.

The only advice I would give is unless you have done trim before a lot get a pro . The prep itself is time consuming and if not done properly can be a huge mess when the painting is finished. I think the trim is cheap looking next to the door so I agee the trim first and then see about the doors

All advice above should be heeded. Don't paint the doors...have them re-stained to match / co-ordinate with your new flooring. Those are quality wood doors (and I don't like wood) and should not be painted. It's like using house paint on a classic car.

We painted all the trim in our Cape Cod before we moved in. The previous owner had replaced some trim in his renovations and since he was color-blind, the new trim never matched the doors. We decided to paint all the trim to make it match. We have never regretted it. It opened up the space where the dark wood trim broke up the lines of the rooms. We did paint the doors as well. It was a huge job due to the number of doors and the time-consuming process of sanding, priming, and painting but we were very satisfied with the results. I agree with the comments above though... leave the doors for last. If you like the look of the wooden doors with the painted trim, just leave it. You can always paint them later.

I agree to paint the trim and leave the doors for now. Re-staining good quality doors to match flooring will hold value much better. The maintenance is so much easier as well. Consider upgrading the door handles to better reflect the quality of the doors. Can you post pictures of your kitchen cabinets?

Thank you all for the replies and suggestions. I really like that look with leaving the door alone but my only issue is the color of the flooring. I was leaning towards a darker floor and I doubt it would match the doors. I really like the color of the door in the top picture. Katinparadise, I will post a picture of the "horrible" kitchen cabinets later today when I'm home. :)

It would probably be easier to just remove the wood trim and replace it with paint grade trim. Paint, then install.

The floor and door do not need to match, they do need to be from the same color tone.

My upstairs floors are slightly darker than my doors, but it works fine.

Before you go very dark, consider that dark floors show scratches and dust much more than lighter. This is true for me with my slightly darker upstairs floor.

As far as trends go, lighter natural or lightly stained floors are what I have been seeing in the most recent design pics. You should go with what you want and not follow trends, but if you think that dark floors are the trend, not anymore.

If you decide to paint the trim, keep in mind there will be several tasks required prior to painting.

Caulking gaps between casing to jambs and casing to walls is required. Always prime the gap with paint prior to caulking. The top corners where the jambs meet also need caulked prior to painting.

I agree with Patricia, if you haven't experienced trim painting, hire a pro and work out a scope of work for the project to ensure you'll be happy with the results. Trim is a stand alone work and it has to look good when done.

You know... that wood looks pretty good. 70s still had half-way decent wood. So, ok I get that the modern palette has moved away from brown as the neutral to grays. However wood stain color choices have evolved the same way - plenty of grays now, from charcoals to silvery bleached out grays. Not to mention the dark ebonies, jet black, grayed out browns etc. Weathered gray is a popular color.

What I dont get is the automatic default to WHITE 99.9% of the time on this forum. PLEASE consider sanding/staining this wood instead of encasing it in an opaque plastic film. Having lived with "landlord white" throughout the 80s -90s, white painted trim looks good for about 5 mins before it starts getting dinged and dirty. In a lot of settings, I think dark trim of whatever color just looks classier too.

There are various products out there - rather than a full-on stripping job (yuck) you might consider some of the heavier bodied stains that just need a light sanding to give it some "tooth" (removing only clear finish without going deeper and removing the color.) I dont want to write a novel so Ill just leave it at that - the woodworker forum could give you m ore specifics..

Thank you all again. Current Resident, I completely understand when you say "renter's white"... I think because it's been so dark in here that I wanted to brighten it up. To make a long story short, I inherited a country dining room that came from my parent's log home. It has sentimental value to me so I'm kinda going off that. The wood is completely a different color than the door and trim and we are going to open up the kitchen, dining and living room so it's like starting all over. I will be putting an island in and would like to maybe put wood on the bottom of the island to match close to the dining furniture and then paint my old cabinets white. New cabinets are not in the budget right now but everything else will be new. That's why I was trying to figure out what to do with the door and trim posted above. Hiring a professional definitely sounds like the way to go so perhaps they can stain them closer in color since they do have a reddish tint to them. I really appreciate all the suggestions. This all is starting to make my head spin and we haven't started yet. lol
