Another surprise find

About 6 years ago our favorite family Chinese restaurant closed. Shirley and Bing (married) were great hosts. They were ready to retire and none of their children wanted to continue the business. They had the best Mar Far Chicken with a sweet spicy mustardy sauce that I loved. I asked Shirley if she would give me the recipe for the sauce and she said she would ask Bing for it (he was the cook). Well, I never got the recipe and was very sad that I would never again have that taste in my mouth. I tried duplicating it, but never even came close. I was sure it had horseradish in it and that's where I went wrong. Then, a couple of years ago I happened upon a recipe for "Chinese Pink Sauce". Actually, I came across several. The pictures and the description looked similar to my memories of Bing's sauce, so I gave one of the recipes a try. Oh, my! I had found it and now I always have some on hand. No horseradish, but lots of powdered mustard.

There is also a very spicy creamy green sauce served at only one Mexican restaurant I have eaten at. No idea what was in it. Then yesterday I got an email with the promise of recipes from NYT. The one that caught my eye was Peruvian Roasted Chicken. I clicked on the link, but once at the site, I saw that I would have to pay $1.25 a week to subscribe to their recipes. Not. So I googled Peruvian Roast Chicken and came up with a couple of recipes, each including a spicy green sauce, but it didn't immediately make me think of the creamy spicy green sauce at my favorite Mexican restaurant. In fact, when I copied the recipes, I almost excluded the sauce, but changed my mind and included it. On the way home from work last night, it struck me that this sauce looked like "my" sauce, so I made some as soon as I got home. I had jalapenos in the garden and cilantro, sour cream, mayo and lime in the fridge, so I whipped it up in a jiffy. And guess what? It's MY sauce!! DH fixed barbecued chicken last night, but I had to try the sauce, so I wrapped the chicken in a tortilla and poured green sauce on it and I was in heaven. Don't know what he's fixing tonight, but I know it's going to have green sauce on it, LOL.
