Lighting Help for small family room with slanted ceiling
Comments (3)Better lighting schemes consist of layered lighting from multiple sources and points. So yes, you should consider both recessed and pendants. Pendants with transparent shades will distribute light 360 degrees. Recessed lighting is distributed in a cone shape and make highlights and reveal shadow areas when used alone. Expect to pay more for this room than you have experienced for your library. Most electricians charge a premium for high work, sloped housings cost more, and, as you probably have already accounted for, rates have increased from years ago....See MoreFamily Room Design Help
Comments (13)Thank you all for your feedback! @groveraxle I want to keep the couch and furniture arrangement as is and keep the TV above the fireplace. I don't have an outlet to put it on the other wall and I like it this way since it is open to my kitchen and in person it makes the rooms flow rather than cutting it off by having the back of the couch facing the kitchen. I agree with your comment on the vertical sticks and it feeling too skinny..that's sort of what I was getting at in my question with adding more to the room and making it feel more full. The picture with that new coffee table helps a lot! Maybe I should shop for new coffee and end table? Eventually I plan to replace the two chairs with cream colored arm chairs or wingback style chairs. Any other suggestions or help would be so appreciated! Comments (1)Maybe repost as a 'design dilemma' or on 'home decorating'? It looks like your space is about five feet wide and can extend down quite a bit. What do you mean by two computers, could you be more specific how many monitors, printers, etc. Do you need storage space for files for your work, or wall space to post instructions or directives, for example? How many people are in your household -- do you need visual privacy? Is your home computer mostly for web surfing? Good luck!...See MoreNeed Design Help: Open Concept Kitchen Family Room w/o Eat-In Space
Comments (26)Yeah, I know it’s a tall order to come up with something that accomplishes what I want but I figured I'd see if others on Houzz had some ideas. Both sectionals that I'm considering are pretty spacious. The first one is 144” x 79” and the other is 120” x 110.” msteezzy - here’s a picture of the space you asked about....See Moredecoenthusiaste
