Comments (16)I have a question on an issue I have with a steam heating steam that works fine throughout all the radiators in the house except for one very important radiator. I have a total of 9 radiators in the house and all of them work fine depending on the room temp, but the biggest radiotor doesnt work. I askd some professionals for a fix and the price just to come down and having a look was approx $170 and labor extra. So I am trying to save some money. Two years ago or more, the radiator that doesnt work had water coming out of the bleed(control) valve and it wasnt driping water, but instead it was splashing out was like water coming out of a fire hydrant in NYC streets. After that instance we turned the entire heat system off and let it cool for some time. After a few hours we turned it on and that radiator never gets hot again. I removed the bleed value to sense if the hot steam air pushing out but all i hear is a sound similar as to when you boil water and along with that was cold air coming out. No other radiators have this issue and I was wondering if anyone can tell me a solution to this major problem. Please advise as my living room stays so much colder now than before....See MoreCan I take out this shower wall?
Comments (2)I can’t comment on the structural work that would need to be done, but I just wanted to comment that we did this to get more natural light into the shower. My contractor went up into the attic and did whatever kind of bracing or supporting he needed to do. That work took him about a half of a day. Like I mentioned above, I don’t really like the “shower show” And we have a whole bunch of little kids and a DH at tend walk in to ask a question when mom is in the shower. So I just asked the contractor to build the pony wall up a little bit higher and have it end at about shoulder height. The glass is on top of that and to the ceiling....See MoreWould you take out this wall?
Comments (21)Yes I do think I may make the switch. Of course the carpet and TV is throwing me off but I am leaning towards doing it! The room with fireplace has two recessed lights above TV, I would have to have an electrician put in a new fixture to add pendant. Adding upholster chairs is good idea, I bet the table would get used even more being next to fireplace! I had 4 Hardwood floor contractors with estimates. For my situation it seems that trying to match hardwood floor is barely less expensive than ripping out and starting over. Some say they couldn’t even match. Some could but couldn’t do my kitchen. It was all over the place. Plus they say the orange tint my current hardwood floor no longer happens with new stains. It is a bummer because my hardwood is in pretty good shape. Originally I was hoping to just add to hallway kitchen LR but I learned over last few months that it is not an easy as I thought. One of the hardwood floor contractors was confident they could convert my stairs to a hardwood. The others told me otherwise. Stairs would be better hardwood rather than carpet? The only other thought I had was if I had to leave carpet I would get ’better’ carpet maybe with a nice subtle pattern for example....See Morenondesigneraaron
