2 island within open kitchen -- good or bad ? pics of what I like
Comments (22)Jean, We have recently completed a kitchen with a layout very similar to the first picture you posted. The main difference is that on the wall with the cook top we have a double cabinet on either side of the hood and the double ovens are on the wall to the left (as you face the cooktop) along with the pantry and refrigerator. Our middle island is ten by four and contains the main sink,, dishwasher and microwave drawer. I store the silverware and dishes directly across from the dishwasher in two drawers so it is very convenient. The second island which opens directly to the family room has a smaller sink and the entire island serves as a bar area. We also have only two walls and are really liking the openess to both the family room and breakfast area. Friends have commented on how much larger the whole area looks. As part of our remodel, we added a nook in a former closer in our mudroom for mail, etc which had always accumulated onour kitchen before, but we knew we had to have another place for in our new layout. I think you will really love the two island layout!...See MoreKitchen cab install while on vaca? Good or bad idea?
Comments (14)Bad, bad idea. This is where you should follow your intuition. Here's my experience. In my last kitchen we did a simple remodel. I was upstairs with my toddler while the contractor was installing the cabinets. I come downstairs to check on the progress. To the left and right of the kitchen window were upper cabinets with the sink centered on the window. The right upper cabinet was further from the window than the left upper cabinet. It looked awful - it was off-balance and threw off the room. When I asked the contractor why he didn't position the cabinet the same distance from the window as the one on the other side, he told me b/c the layout didn't show it that way. I asked him, don't you think it looks a little off-balance and he agreed that it seemed weird to do it that way. I asked him to take it down install it the same distance from the window as the other cabinet. He got a bit huffy with me and I reminded him that at the beginning of the job if there were any questions regarding the layout and the installation or if something did not seem right to him, he had been instructed to ask me before he did anything. Granted in the scheme of things this probably doesn't seem like a big deal, but my point is that I was in the house and he still didn't check with me. I can't even begin to imagine what would go on if I was out of town. To undo things and redo costs not only money, but time. I would suspend the installation until I returned. Have a great trip!!!...See MoreGood or bad experience w/ Miseno, Danze or Essen kitchen faucets?
Comments (21)We did a master bath with Danze a number of years ago. All of the finishes have failed and all of the cartridges and parts have corroded. They take WEEKS to deal with warranty. YOU have to mail the parts back at your expense after weeks of waiting for the claim papers. Contrast this to my experience with Moen, Delta and Kohler. Call them, they send the part. Sometimes you get it in a day or two. Most times within a week. And both Delta and Moen sent completely new faucets without any problem at all. Keep all of your receipts. And even if it's been many years, that is the service you will get....See Moreikea kitchen cabinets good or bad
Comments (3)They are very good for the money. You can also use Ikea frames with another manufacturers custom doors. I have included a link to Ikea fans and you can also check out the kitchen forum for discussions on the cabinets and the various modifications that can be done to them. Good luck!
